Race Car
ya know, I've been lurking around for a few years now, but this is really just to................................ well it would be funny, if it wasnt scarry and dangerous.
students look to insructors as authority figures, and why not, they want to drive like you, they listen to your commands... (and frankly thats the hardest part, breaking down bad habits, unlearning years of street driving... basicly beating them into submission)
Soooo we really need to have a higher standards, set the example.
Which brings me to another issue....
Rennagade Drivers... ones who are reckless, crashout, dont listen, bad attitudes, whatever... its not like a race program with log books and licences...
I had a student last year, who this year crashed out in front of me (w/instr in car)... typical boy racer, over hp car and poor listening skills.... we had some discussions on why you cant get away with that type of driving on the track... with his argument, that I always drive like that.... yeah... you going to be stupid, you gotta be tough!
When I was registering for an event the following weekend, I told the registrar about the incident,,, otherwise, she would never know about a students crash.... its not like a log book follows you around..
So, how do we start an Instructor Ratings program nation wide...
the pca national program could be a start.... maybe link to nasa/scca/etc?
wadda think?

As I was faxing the application to my first PCA DE (Road America memorial weekend) this thread popped in my head as I requested a certain instructor. This thread popped in my head - wondering if he moved to the midwest. So I log on, and what do I find, it's topped again.

Happy 2nd Anniversary Frank!
The soap never stopped... and FWIW, it was NOT me posting in all of 2004. someone hacked my account and posted "like" me. Which i must admit whoever did that did sort of a good job emulating. But it is also sad someone would go that far... It would seem like this thread will continue on with or with out my presence. for as long as DE's live, this thread probably have a place. (ie, the subject of instructor driving student's car).
Actual quote from Randy Pobst. "so Frank, what are you driving today?", (Just my little Civic there" - me. "Do you mind if I take it out for a few laps?". "I would love that" - me.
I had a big laugh on the inside of my head when I heard Randy said that as I've used that line so many times.

Missed your point there, Frank.
Randy Pobst is a race winner. How many trophies have you picked up from droving other people's cars? Real ones, not the kind you bought at the hobby store to give to yourself.

You know, Churchill said it best: "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Please put on your SAT hat and consider the following:
Frank is to Randy Pobst as......
Barney Fife to a US Marine

I don't know if my statement even makes any sense with this explanation... But as you all know, I live in my own little twisted world. :-)
