ya know, I've been lurking around for a few years now, but this is really just to................................ well it would be funny, if it wasnt scarry and dangerous.

students look to insructors as authority figures, and why not, they want to drive like you, they listen to your commands... (and frankly thats the hardest part, breaking down bad habits, unlearning years of street driving... basicly beating them into submission)

Soooo we really need to have a higher standards, set the example.

Which brings me to another issue....

Rennagade Drivers... ones who are reckless, crashout, dont listen, bad attitudes, whatever... its not like a race program with log books and licences...

I had a student last year, who this year crashed out in front of me (w/instr in car)... typical boy racer, over hp car and poor listening skills.... we had some discussions on why you cant get away with that type of driving on the track... with his argument, that I always drive like that.... yeah... you going to be stupid, you gotta be tough!

When I was registering for an event the following weekend, I told the registrar about the incident,,, otherwise, she would never know about a students crash.... its not like a log book follows you around..

So, how do we start an Instructor Ratings program nation wide...

the pca national program could be a start.... maybe link to nasa/scca/etc?

wadda think?

I had my first DE a couple of weeks ago with Riesentöter PCA at Shenandoah. First classroom session we were issued report cards to give to our instructors (one per student for the three days) and log books. We don't see the report cards--they go to the chief instructor and our subsequent instructors--but we have info to write in the log book and so does the instructor.

Just FYI. This seems like a good program.

As I was faxing the application to my first PCA DE (Road America memorial weekend) this thread popped in my head as I requested a certain instructor. This thread popped in my head - wondering if he moved to the midwest. So I log on, and what do I find, it's topped again.

Red face

Happy 2nd Anniversary Frank!
Thank you, thank, thank you.

The soap never stopped... and FWIW, it was NOT me posting in all of 2004. someone hacked my account and posted "like" me. Which i must admit whoever did that did sort of a good job emulating. But it is also sad someone would go that far... It would seem like this thread will continue on with or with out my presence. for as long as DE's live, this thread probably have a place. (ie, the subject of instructor driving student's car).

Actual quote from Randy Pobst. "so Frank, what are you driving today?", (Just my little Civic there" - me. "Do you mind if I take it out for a few laps?". "I would love that" - me.

I had a big laugh on the inside of my head when I heard Randy said that as I've used that line so many times.

Missed your point there, Frank.

Randy Pobst is a race winner. How many trophies have you picked up from droving other people's cars? Real ones, not the kind you bought at the hobby store to give to yourself.

Actually, I've driven more cars than I'll ever own as well. What does that mean?

You know, Churchill said it best: "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

And, my personal favourite: "Some people are just too stupid to know that they're stupid".

I just can't resist!
Please put on your SAT hat and consider the following:

Frank is to Randy Pobst as......
Barney Fife to a US Marine

Perhaps I will explain my points later but let me ask you readers this. What did you guys learn from this thread?! Besides to never go to a track day where I might appear lol. Preferably something contructive please... but if anyone feels the need to have more fun cracking jokes, be my guest.

I wrote that a while ago and I don't remember exactly in which context. However I'm not about to go back trhough 50+ pages to remember why I wrote it. But if my memory is functioning correctly, it was probably because someone said something about how one should not drive something that one can not afford to replace. Then I *think* (not sure though) I made argument about how in life the average person will probably only own a dozen of cars... Then I wrote the above which you quoted. I guess what I wish to convey was obviusly I (and I doubt anybody else here) can ever afford _all_ of the cars that I've been given the priviledge to drive. But I certainly can afford any single one of them.

I don't know if my statement even makes any sense with this explanation... But as you all know, I live in my own little twisted world. :-)

Hahaha... I was bored tonight so I read through around page 40-current. There are some funny haiku's in there... and the grill one was good too.
