Sometimes, when I get down on myself and down on life in general I feel like a real loser.
Then I read a post like this and I feel pretty good about myself.

I can see the credits to Fast and Furious 3 now:
"starring Ghettoracer and Hamann7 in a ***** to the wall, nitrous injected, ingnorance-induced two hour oversteer marathon."
Holy cow. I am so thankful for instructors who actually had wits abut them - AND had something to lose - when they were brave enough to ride with me and "reel me in."

ummm...Kinda I think you shot your self in the foot here Mr.Ghetto Racer. Some wise people say .. Less is more.
BTW what kind of name is Ghetto Racer? Do you think that it is confidence inspriring for people who do not know you, to find out that their about to hand out their keys to their precious on a DE envinronment to a guy that goes by the name of Ghetto Racer? Don't get me wrong the words "racer" is what bothers me...
I do not know you , just some quick observations here... Good luck getting yourself out of the hole.

"There is a marketing stat that only 1 out of 20 unhappy customers will ever say anything..."
I'm not familiar with that stat. However, if true, new/used car salesmen should come out smelling like a rose.
I am familiar with the marketing stat that dissatisfied customers will express their disatisfaction to 9 people while satisfied customers tell merely 2 people (or thereabouts).
I sense there are some prior issues in the responses to GhettoRacer's opening statement. I hope you gentlemen can settle your differences.
I'll butt out now,

You are right about the ratio of those who will tell others about bad experiences vs. good experiences.
As far as the history, you need only use the search features on this board, and others, to see what GR has said about DEs, students cars and how he 'interacts' with them. Then you might understand why he is, yet again, trying to dig himself out of his hole...
Though it is clearly not working - it is only getting deeper. I think this is a case of a negative learning curve.

Greg and Bill hit are spot on. Driver's Ed and racing are not even close to the same. When I decided to go club racing in 2000 after almost 3 full seasons of driver's ed, the first piece of advice I was given was,"club racing is not DE."
DE teaches you car control and mechanics which will help prepare you for racing. The stuff you learn about the line goes bye-bye because if you go into a racing situation thinking, "I'll just drive the line and I'll be fine," you are in for a wake up call about as subtle as being whacked in the head with a shovel.
Sure, you go fast in DE, and that is about the only thing in common with racing. To imply that a DE event is "extremely close to racing conditions" is bad advice to give any student.

Burning Brakes
To follow on in the spirit of the start of this thread, I've given my students in 'Creative Writing' here at the University of Nürburgring an assignment to sum up their impressions of this thread so far, in both limerick and Haiku form. Submissions so far are slim, as the chorus of hysterical laughter at the initial post has yet to subside. Feel free to contribute your own, as it's good to have them face the authors and poets of the outside world. We all can't live alone in our own little rose-colored world, can we ?
There was a Ghettoracer named Frank
who's car tastes didn't fit his bank,
but he was good at the 'pose'
when the opportunity rose
for a student's car he could just spank.
or
Red suit, he's a pro
Frank swaps ends, it's not his car,
Student's heart in throat.
Fire in the hole, boys...

Professor, you can't have all the fun here.
Poseurville
(Sung to the tune of Margaritaville with HUGE apologies to Jimmy Buffett)
Getting’ my big brakes,
Watchin my tires bake;
All of those windshields covered with oil.
500 horsepowr’, in my street car now.
Smell that coolant-
It’s beginnin’ to boil.
Wasted away again in racing poseurville,
Searching for my lost talent to drive,
Some people say better drivers are they,
But I know it’s nobody’s fault.
Don’t know the reason,
I sat out all season
My skills are like Schumi’s and Juan Pablo’s too.
I’m a real driver,
A DE survivor, why not F1
I haven’t a clue.
Wasted away again in racing poseurville,
Searching for my lost talent to drive,
Some people say better drivers are they,
Now I think – hell it could be my fault.
Now I’m a real racer,
Not one of them fakers,
I teach DEs, had to slow down for you.
I don’t need no coaching,
I’ll just keep on boasting,
Senna asked me for some help, yes it’s true.
Wasted away again in racing poseurville,
Searching for my lost talent to drive,
Some people say better drivers are they,
But I know – it’s my own damn fault.
Yes, and some people say better drivers are they,
And I know – it’s my own damn fault.
