Wow, lots of cars on the track with you. Must have been that drivers school you've been meaning to go to in order to get a license.

Isn't that what what they call "drifting"? I'm surprised that you don't recognize the newest ultimate motorsport.

Just as I suspected. Drofting is the way to a pro ride in a major road racing series.

Which pic, Mike? I only looked at one or two (dial-up sucks). I know Thunderhill better than most -- I'll likely know which turn it was, and if it was on-apex. Thunderhill is filled with late apexes with a fun variety of turn-in points. It's a great track -- I hope you all get to see it someday. I'll even let you drove my car to see it.

Hey Bon

I was refering to the pics ending in 676, 718, 658, and 595.

794 looked like the end of a spin

731 looks like there has to be an apex in there somewhere.

I don't think he was trying to drift. If he was doing it at all, there would be some tire smoke.

I'll get out there sometime -- maybe even in my own car.

Have fun at Sebring. I did my annual migration in February

skid pad training for my client. getting him used to loading the car up, inducing some rotation, catching the slide... etc. the Atom has low polar moment as well as light weight so everything happens very quickly. he learn more on skid pad in 20 mins than he did on track for 1 hour (because he was afraid to push it at first). if we didn't have the stupid gearbox problem (Brammo messed up on the gear linkage) and lost access to the 5th/6th gear "gate" we'd be on track more.

Atom's rack has limited steering range (think 996 Cup car) so you can't really have crazy drift angle. so the "point of no return" drift angel is kind of easy to exceed. overall it's a fantastic handling car, so much fun. At the Top Gear "test track" the Atom (300 bhp supercharged version) turn faster lap times than the CGT. so it packs quite a punch at the track. its aero is kind of poor though, so performance above 110 mph is held back some what, you can feel it... but it gets up there very quickly. we just got the 230 bhp version for now. we'll build a 2.4 liter naturally aspirated torque monster for it later this year. 285+ whp (335+ bhp) will be ungodly.

Hey Mike . . . those piccies sent me to a non-exsistent page. I'll try again later, sorry. I am surprised, though, that Thunderhill let you all (Frank) use the north end (presuming) of the paddock for skid pad exercizes. We once had a (literally) fogged-out event where we used the paddock for a car control / skid pad clinic. But we didn't do it for fun drifting -- we did it for car control. There's nothing like watching a Corvette try and navigate a tight slalom -- I really should have spaced the cones out a little more. Lol!

Typical novice misunderstanding - blame the car when the problem is the driver. I can guarantee that a formula car has much less steering range and any decent drover can do that in such a car. The secret is to stop blaming the car and look to the drover. As much as I make fun of GhettoR (you guys can fill in the R), I really thought his droving skills were somewhat better than that - I guess I have to admit I was wrong and overestimated Francis' skills.

By the way, for those of you who have never been to Thunderhill (3-mile track in Willows, California) . . .

Full details about the track, and last I checked a video tutorial, can be found at www.thunderhill.com

I love it that you attempt to trademark/copyright your photos using a trademark/copyright violation.

You are the funniest unintentional ironist I think I have ever seen . . .
