If you want to get Porsche's attention, this and the strut failure thread would make great stickies.

Some great people within the factory frequent these boards and can sometimes actually do something about this stuff. Maybe they can get someone like the guy at PCNA who cut through all the BS and fixed some early 991 RS tire clearance problems with Home Depot stuff (or some such) to address these issues before the real bills start piling up. The gear fix ain't gonna be an easy fix, but a stamped steel strut tower insert seems like a no-brainer.

The GT4 is a great car and a great product. People are really using them, and so far these seem to be the only weak areas of note—not bad for a first-time out product exposed to users like Mooty....

Make that 10. Mine just failed on a 2-3 shift. Now 3rd is like neutral. Fantastic.

Be nice to know how close together the failed units are in the manufacturing sequence.

Another good reason to make this and the strut tower thread stickies. RLers can start to see the picture; so can insiders—without having to resort to dealer records first.

Does anyone know the user ID of a moderator on RL for the GT4 section?

Been at dealer since 10/17/16 waiting on trans. First ETA was 11/14, then 11/20. Now no ETA as of today- 11/21. Seriously sucks.

I don't mean to trivialize this, but if the back-of-the-napkin estimate of GT4 produced for North America is around 2000, and we have a documented total of 10?

Granted, not all North American GT4 owners are on RL, but let's say half of them are at a minimum casual posters, the 10 out of 1000 is something around a magnitude of 1%.

I would say that even 1% is unacceptable.....especially for a parts bin build. All of these parts should have been well tested.........Phil

Let's be a bit realistic here.

The entire GT4 is essentially a parts bin build. I'm guessing there are more than a 1% failure rate for faulty parking brake or TPM faults?

These are mechanical objects. They fail, for one reason or another. A 1% failure rate (or something very close to it) does not make it a serial issue, or an epidemic of some sort.

there are now 3 in a close circle just in the South San Fran Bay Area, we all know each other well... my guess is the incidence is much higher than 1% ...

from what i can tell, the 3 are about 1 year apart in mfg sequence... most recent one that failed was delivered only 4 mos ago as euro delivery
