I talked to the owner. I offered to swap pink slips, as his seats weren't comfortable and he had no cup holders. He politely declined.

So in Europe/Germany you can drive a clubsport on the street as long as it's registered? Hmmmm that's one reason to move...

Biggest hurdle here in the US is the factory welded roll cage as dot prohibits OEMs from selling road legal cars with them. Otherwise the emissions are the same for the CS

Any idea how BMW is getting around that limitation with the M4 GTS?

Suspect registering the GT4CS is not the easiest thing to do, that is certainly not just walking up the county's car registry office and handing over the paperwork. Other people I know will just trailer their CS.

I'm not sure if the GTS cage is bolt in or weld in, but if it is indeed a bolt in unit, BMW can funnel the cage thru it's parts dept and "gift" it to the owners upon delivery.

Legal grey area neither PCNA or PMNA wants to mess with, and US Spec cars dont come with the BIW modifications.

There are enough great aftermarket solutions available

I'm not aware of any regulation that says that the NA BIW must not be able to be readily converted to a half or full race cage.
No reason to neuter the NA BIW, nor to not make the CS package available separately.
Grow a pair Porsche.
