Default Zip tie your rear brake ducts

I did my tech inspection for a track day this week and realized that I left the bottom parts of both my rear brake ducts somewhere in the field of wildflowers outside of turn 1 at TWS two weekends ago.

Moral of the story. Zip tie your brake ducts together if you're on the track, so you don't lose them if you ever go off. They seem to be lowest pieces at the bottom of the car and easy to catch on something.

At least they were cheap to order new from Porsche.

I had one come off on the street even before I had ever set foot on a track. Good advice, weak design.

Here are some reference points: I have talked to few guys with GT4's out there and most of us mortals in the advanced groups, on oem tires, are probably running 1:53 - 1:55 out there, depending on the day, weather and traffic.

I had a pro drive my car there and he did a few 1:51:xx laps on a slighty damp track.

Now, you always use ShakeNBake as a benchmark. He did a 1:48:9X last time out there if I remember correctly, albeit on hoosiers and with some mods.

Good advice. I zip tied mine last weekend similar to PP's post. A friend's was falling off before even tracking, similar I assume, to what johnr265 mentions in post 5.

I'm about to get my car on a lift to tighten sway bar fasteners prior to a track weekend, so I'm planning to do this. Just so I'm clear, the brake ducts aren't zip-tied TO anything here? You've just wrapped zip ties around the ducts themselves to keep the upper half attached to the lower half? Does this work as adequate protection because the only risk is losing part of the ducts rather than the entire thing? Are the ducts actually designed as a 2-piece assembly, or do they simply tend to break apart in a way that only the bottom part is lost?

Yeah I feel as if they were made to break away if it so you only lose the bottom piece and not the whole assembly

You pretty much got it. It is just wrapped around the duct as a whole to keep the bottom pieces from falling off. You have to buy the whole duct of you lose the bottom piece. They are really not well attached and if you look at the duct, you'll see how easy it would be for it to either fall off it not well attached, or even if something just slightly catches the front of it to get pulled off, which is the lowest part of the car.

Who knows if it will be enough? Time will tell, but nothing to lose and makes it a bit more sturdy.
