GT4 vs. BGB 3.8 Cayman
For what its worth after owning a BGB 3.8 Cayman and now a GT4:
One is not better than the other in an absolute sense.
I really liked my BGB car and the new owner is loving it! It is a great car!
It had stock shocks with H&R lowering springs and a GT3 front sway bar.
Cargraphic headers, 991S brakes, larger throttle body, etc.
If I had finished doing the last few items on that car I would surely say it would have been slightly faster on track. I was going to put an LSD and a Tarret rear sway bar but never did because I made the tough choice to sell the car and get the GT4.
At VIR I was doing 2:04's in the BGB car on Hankook Z251 Ventus. The rear sway and LSD would have made a big difference though if I had done them.
By comparison, in the GT4 on stock Cup 2's I was able to do 2:05's.
I think the difference between the 2 is very close. If I had equal tires and had an LSD in the BGB car, it may be a bit faster than the otherwise stock GT4.
GT4 advantages:
Aero
Brakes
Suspension
Its a GT4 - intangible to explain
BGB Cayman advantages:
No boy racer wing - if you dont like it anyway... (You can add one if you want though)
Perhaps better daily driver...
More power (but John can give the GT4 more power too...)
18" wheels fit over the 991S brakes (which are very adequate I might add)
Cheaper consumables for brakes.
Can get a PDK if you want one...
Probably many other things I am not thinking of at the moment.
Bottom line is they both are great cars and perhaps one can replace the other in many respects. If you cant get a GT4, the BGB car is a wonderful alternative. If you can get a GT4 but want a PDK, cheaper brakes, 18" wheels, less flashy daily driver, etc, etc, the BGB car is the way to go.
I might say that price wise it may be much closer than you would expect - especially if you end up spending the money on upgrades to the GT4 anyway - like an LSD, Headers, etc.
Anyway, that is just my perspective. Everyone has differing needs and wants so these are just my observations. A number of people have asked me for a comparison so I figured I would just post this.
It is not meant to open a debate.....just an impartial observation as requested by others.

Enjoy the GT4 bud! Your LWB harness bar should show up at the beginning of next week and let's get some rubber on it so we can get down to the 2:00s.

John,
I am actually more interested in putting a 991 Carrera 3.4 engine in base 981 Cayman (to take advantage of the gearing). I really love the free revving nature of the 3.4 in my base 991. Is that something you would be interested in doing? Have you done it before?
We could put a nice Canyon Carving suspension in with a good header and exhaust (Cargraphic, I presume?), etc.
We can talk over PM if you like...
