The San Franciso Bay Area is the best placed I've lived IMHO. I have lived in NY/NJ area, Philadelphia, Washington DC/MD/VA, and the Bay Area.

Loved it there in the SF-Silicon Valley area. Unfortunately, the Bay Area real estate market is insane!
