Torque that comes in at 1800 RPMs is a lot more usable than torque that comes in at 4500 RPMs. The only thing keeping GT4 lap times ahead of even the pedestrian 718S on any track are tires and an alignment. Don’t get me wrong, I’d take the GT4 all day over the 718, but the new car is the quicker of the two.

No offense to the OP, but I wouldn’t buy a 718 under any circumstances. The noise and the styling kill it for me. It could be as quick as a 918 on track and I’d still have zero interest.

No offense taken, I was simply conveying my analysis of the 718s that I've driven in comparison to my experience of daily driving a GT4 for a little over a year. I love both cars, each for different reasons. In regards to the styling, just like anything else it takes time to grow on you. I'm particularly in love with the new tail lights

Base 2.0L Boxster 6 MT (300HP/280TQ) vs 2.5L VTG Cayman S w/ PDK (350HP/309TQ). The cars could not be any more different than each other if they tried. Going up the hill after turn 5, the 2.0L motor feels pretty wheezy, whereas the 2.5L in the S feels explosive. PDK vs 6-Speed helps a bit as well. Boxster no PASM whereas Cayman S is equipped with SPASM.

Keep in mind these are not AiM Solo or Harrys Laptimer times. I'm putting faith in the accuracy of Sport Chrono and using the same trigger points each lap. Innaccuracy factor of +/- 1 to 2 seconds for this if you want.

I agree on taking the GT4 over a 718 and that the 718 is quicker on most situations,,,,but on the Ring, do you really drop the revs to 1800 RPMS? which was my original opinion on why on the ring that torque advantage is minimized. Can't wait to see what they are going to offer on the 718 GT4.

Talking up any torque advantage of a 718 seems similar to trying to find one nice thing to say about an otherwise unpleasant person.
I understand the need to move these things, but you may have more luck outside of this GT4 specific forum.
From time to time a poster will write they desire a turbocharged GT4, but the overwhelming majority here are against forced induction.
Porsche has developed a flawed product with the 718; turbocharged four cylinder, generic and bland corporate front, Chunnel shaped interior air vents, SC dial turning into a wart, cheap looking taillights with tacky raised brand name molded into the rear fascia.
Other manufacturers have discovered better ways to reduce emissions like using dual direct and port fuel injection, so I'm not sure why Porsche decided on relatively low technology conventional turbocharging, perhaps just for China's capacity tax.
Heat is already a problem with normally aspirated engines in this platform, and they exacerbate this situation further by locating the heat exchanger on top of the engine, I wouldn't be surprised if under track conditions it will start to pull timing early on.

Eh, I kind of like the 718. I wouldn't get it over a GT4, but it is still fun to drive and the low end torque is very noticeably more around town. The 718S has more torque than the GT4 until 4500 RPM, and produces max torque at only 1,800 RPM. From 1,800 until 4,000 RPM when the GT4 cam profile comes alive, the 718S in fact has 60+ foot pounds more than the GT4. 1,800 to 4,000 is where we spend most of our time around town (I suspect...) There is the whole sound thing, and the styling is divisive, but the low end torque is indeed more for quite a while. A tuned 718S would be very quick.

That's a similar vein to what air-cooled purists said about the transition to water cooled 911, if you want to make generalizations.

I am no Porsche apologist, but I think the nature of (re)evolution is that it will ruffle feathers. It should come at no surprise that the new generation "S" or "GTS" car out performs the previous generation GT cars.

The purpose of this thread is to present a set of conclusive data and objective thought on the 718 throughout the 4 track days I've done so far this year, not to try and drum up 718 sales in a GT4 sub forum. As a previous resident of this sub-forum and now a forum sponsor, I have the opportunity to spend quite a bit of time around products and information that not most everyone might have the opportunity to get their hands on as conveniently. Also having a technical background, I'd like to share my findings with you guys as the GT4 forum seems to be the most actively involved in DE's and technical topics.
