Fun read. Are 718S's really moving slowly for Porsche? I see a ton of them on the road in my area. Just curious. a Boxster GTS would be a fun little car to screw around in.

I’ve read this older thread with interest. I picked up a 718 GTS as I traded in my 16 GT3 RS for a 19 GT3 RS and needed a car to track for the many months I was without a car for track days.

I’m shocked at how good the 718 GTS off the lot. The only change i made was putting in Castrol SRF brake fluid and picking up a set of downsized wheels so that I could run Cup 2s at track. With these changes this little thing is a rocket. I’m turning laps at various tracks that are so much quicker then I ever anticipated.

The torque from the little 4 is really amazing; my friends with GT4s are not able to hang with me coming out of the turns. In fact numerous high hp cars are not able to hang with this little monster of a car.

The only complaints I have are that the steering goes abit numb at speed, but perhaps that bc I’m used to tracking GT3s. Also, the rear pads get destroyed quickly due to what I’m guessing is a rather intrusive PTV system.

This car is so amazingly quick, I’m always hunted down by others at DEs to find out what I’ve done with this little car to make it so fast. I’ve never wanted a GT4, now I’m definitely getting one when it comes out.

At our last DE one of the instructors was driving a 718 CS.......that car is very quick specially coming out of turns. With good tires and a bit of minor suspension work they are great DE/Track cars.
What I'm not sure is how good the turbo engine will cope with heat and abuse for a whole weekend. Also, the sound.....I just love my 981 GT4 sound so much and since I'm not racing the car the experience and feel is very important.
Anyway, this will be an incentive for PAG to make the 718 GT4 faster than a GTS.

I've run at least 12 track days in my 718 GTS since I bought it in late July, so far I have never had an issue with overheating. Only problem I have had is replacing tires and brake pads because the thing is so fast. The new GT4 is going to be a honey of a car if it needs to be quicker then the GTS. I am frequently outrunning GT4s who are not running full slicks, this little thing is so fast.

I recently drove a 718 GTS at one of those Porsche Experience Track Days at LRP. They only had the 718 running the autocross course but I have to say it was a straight up blast to drive. The sound... Well if the 6 is a symphony, the 4 is a speed metal band... I am a huge fan of a NA six, and someone will likely pry my GT4 from my cold dead hands, but I have to say, I would love to see what Porsche could do with a full GT version and a bunch of design margin in the turbo heat management. I think it could be a raucous little trouble maker on track!

The new GT4 is going to be incredible. The engine will keep everyone who is into the aural experience of the drive pretty happy.

If any of you are interested in a new 982 GT4 Clubsport, PM ME.

You’re frequently running faster then them because you must be a better driver or some other reason because the 981 GT4 is faster then the 718 GTS in the hands of the same driver on the same track. Its been documented. So why wouldn’t the 718 GT4 be faster????

FWIW, the 718 GTS w/ PDK ran a 2:56.7 around ViR at Car & Driver's recent Lightning Lap. Our GT4 ran a 2:54 flat.
