Porsche's GT department is lining up the fastest and most focused Cayman yet for arrival ahead of the Goodwood Festival of Speed this July, where the GT4 will make a dynamic debut in all its 4.0-litre flat six glory. PH has learned that the car will be revealed statically before then, but it'll be the Duke of Richmond's driveway which provides us with the first chance to hear how its new 911 GT3-sourced motor sounds. [PistonHeads]

Geneva then?

That's a long wait from March to July...

8500 RMP, 4.0L GT3 engine. If true, then that is better than what I expected. Not gonna lie, I would love to have that engine over the current one. However, with a 900 RPM increase, plus larger displacement, the hp seems to be conservative at 420 then. Doesn't add up if you ask me. I get that they'll de-tune it from the GT3 eninge, but then why increase the RPM, which is where an N/A engine makes the extra power? I mean, doesn't the clubsport make 420 hp from the 3.8l engine already?

Either way, if true, I can't see Porsche only raising the price by $10k over the 981, with a 4.0L GT3 engine.

Yea, this gets into some unusual pricing. If its very similar to the gt3, the price will jump. Then the jump to gt3 is an option. Heck, I might be emotionally ready to just take that leap. lols

The GT4 street can still have a 4.0L motor with the same heads and intake of the new GT4 Clubsport. Don't think they are going to give us GT3 heads just yet, but we may get the same block. The extra displacement will add roughly 20 hp and 20 ft/lbs of tq, which the particulate filter will essential absorb due to its losses. Basically 440 hp - 20 hp = 420 hp. This will cover the EU and any where else that particulate filters are needed, then if we don't have the particulate filter, they can just detune our USA motors to maintain a common hp/tq for all production vehicles. In the process we should get a nice increase of low end torque from the increase in the displacement from 3.8 to 4.0 liters. That leaves the door open for a future GT4 RS with the 4.0L motor and the GT3 heads dialed down to 8500 rpm and say 450 hp to be the final version of the 982..

Thank you abuslux for posting. You'd think all this information helps, it just confuses me more!! I'd be surprised if the gt4 revs above 8

I think the timing suggested in the article is probably correct being directly sourced from marketing plan with dealers. That it revs to 8500 rpm (would require GT3 architecture ECU) and has exotic suspension and hub materials is probably untrue.
