Default Spyder Market Report?

Auto-trader has less than 10 Spyders or something like that listed at the moment. Is there a Market for a 981 Spyder? I'm thinking of selling my Red one. How much should I ask?

Hardly any 987.2 spyder's also, maybe time of year for convertibles? There does seem to be alot of people looking for both versions though

Several reasons that are possible:
-Not many Spyders of either generation were sold so less potentially for sale.
-Spyders are recognized as special Porsche's. So people are hanging on to them because they offer great performance and fun for the money, maintain their value very well and are considered collectible by a growing number of customers.
-Warm weather has yet to hit.

The least expensive one I've seen sold for 89,000. It sold five months ago from a dealer with an MSRP of about 96K. Nice condition with 6500 miles and I think he got an outstanding price. Given the time of year you should get close to MSRP for a nice example.

I told my wife that if I die she is to sell it for no less that what I paid (including sales tax) but to ask for about 10-15% over that.

This will likely change as time goes by, but, its not like you can get another.

In my opinion, Porsche cars that sold less than 1000 units and are power monsters, are almost always worth what they cost new and some quite a bit more.

Go try and buy a real 914-6 for example. And they made a lot more of those.

Or go try and buy a 96 turbo.

It really is difficult to offer an opinion concerning a possible sales price without knowing the current miles, options, and MSRP. Just for reference, I bought my Spyder in September 2016 for $94,500. The price included CPO and shipping from Texas to California. The car had 1,900 miles and an MSRP of $97,000.

Yea prices are coming down, and then they are selling. The ones I have seen on Porsche USA and other sites that are above MSRP are not selling. The ones that are at or slightly below MSRP are selling. For a well optioned model, meaning reverse camera, buckets, Classic interior, GT silver etc. you may be able to get 5k above MSRP. I'm looking right now but would pay above msrp only for extreme low miles. There is one in AZ that has never been driven listed at 57 miles and about 10k over asking......still hasn't sold for months.

consider the rarity of the color and how it is optioned, how many miles etc... maintenance records ... you are coming into the time of the year where hope springs eternal for those who love the drop tops...

Overall, it seems like the 987.2 spyders have hit their bottom and are trending slightly up from a year ago. The 981's seem like they are trending slightly down. The operative word is slightly. Selling at MSRP seems very possible now. Over MSRP not so much, at least not quickly. This is my overall sense of the market, which I check at least once a week.

The red one is one of the last cars built to order for NA Market if that means anything. G.Red, Blk Leather, 10k miles, Buckets, Burmester, Climate, Painted PCM, Painted Side Air-Ducts msrp was 100+. I'm just thinking about it as I hit 10K and It's been a year now plus I have two so it's not like I'll miss out on having a Spyder. Last time I was on the road in Pasadena on my way to the dealership or something with the top down and I was at a red light and and a guy on the street called me a show off lol. The red ones are about as inconspicuous as a ferrari.

Update: KBB was basically a little less than my MSRP but there isn't a box for Light Weight Buckets which I think makes a big difference? basically I want a 991.1 GTS Targa 4. Anyone want to trade? I love my spyder but a 991.1 GTS Targa 4 is also special imho.

How accurate are kbb estimates on the 991 Spyder? Which are pretty high..at or above msrp.
All the other calculators seem on the low side.

Definitely don't use KBB or NADA to value the cars, it will always be low compared to what is actually seen on the market. KBB has reported the 987.2 Spyder in the high $40's for the past three years. Personally I have seen several exchange hands at much higher prices depending on their configuration.

I would take a look at what is available online and use your best judgment.

KBB and NADA, IMO don't have a deep enough understanding of the options, cost of options or how said options effect the performance of the car or desire for the car.

Jean, as the weather warms up, the market is opening up. List it. Also in Panorama. It will get picked up. You probably are in a time crunch as the 991 GTS may not be around for long.

Since you have decided to sell one, would you mind sharing your views on having two samples of the same model at the same time? Is the experience as good as you expected? Does not having diversity of driving experience make it, dare I say, boring? For a few years, I had two S2000s at the same time. Liked the experience. However, I did miss not having something different. So, would love to hear your thoughts.
