Turbo lag in a gt4?

I don't understand all this complaining on the gearing....
its perfectly fine on the track.. 2nd is great, 3rd is great
I have yet to hear any of the guys who frequently track to car complain about the gears.
the only gear I haven't used is 6th (although maybe on my 2nd visit to Daytona I hope to hit it)

Not sure why people are being so sensitive.... he's not wrong... the gearing makes 3rd and 4th seem slow even when higher in the RPM.... it just does... the car doesn't pull all that hard for 100k, but that's not the draw for me anyway.... I love the handling. If I want all out acceleration, I have my liter bike, which will make 90%+ of cars look stupid in raw power to weight and speed. It's all about that sweet mid engine handling, but I really do wish 3rd wasn't so damn long.
So you admit it. 3rd gear feels slow. rop3 is right, after all. Car is no good!
(No one is being sensitive. Just having fun with a somewhat lame post. We're all grown ups here - nobody's ego is tied into a car. Sarcasm doesn't translate sometimes)

burn the car
then value up
gearing is fine, u shift too early. i use 1&2 only
sometime third gear
i have yet to use fourth , fifth or sixth
the car is fine just keep it above 5500 all day.
no torque below that
find a turn and put in 2nd gear. plant the throttle ALL THE WAY to the floor see if u don't pee on ur self. if that doesn't get u jizzed up, u need to find another hobby
i love the long second gear but i make a mess
floor second this happens
go try it
if u fall off the cliff don't blame me

Yep. Drive it like you hate it. Works out well.

Part of that could be the E-Gas\DME.
My Boxster (from 2002 no less) if I just shove the gas pedal to the floor just kind of falls flat for a bit. But if I ease the throttle on feeding more throttle as it feels like the engine can accept it the car picks up speed at a pretty good clip.
Part of this I think is the DME refusing the let the throttle go WFO at low engine speed. If this happens intake air flow speed slows way down and combustion chamber filling and swirling are negatively affected.
With DFI engines this swirling of the incoming air is even more important as they are lean burn engines and rely upon a cloud of fresh air to gather and swirl around the plug and where the injector will spray its fuel.
(Might mention this reluctance to accelerate with WOT was the case with my VW Golf TDi, too. I was expecting to floor the gas, err fuel pedal, and have the car belch a big cloud of soot out to discourage tailgators. What I got instead was an engine that could barely get out of its own way when I floored the fuel pedal. But when I learned to ease -- albeit at a pretty good rate -- the fuel pedal down the car accelerated quite rapidly. Just no soot.)
Anyhow, your car will never pull like a freight train if you floor the gas pedal at too low of RPMs but if you are in the right gear and at the right/appropriate RPMs and are judicious with how much throttle you apply I think you'll find the car accelerates pretty darn good.
I can tell you even with my 996 Turbo I have to be aware of engine RPMs. The engine pulls ok at lower RPMs, at least in the lower gears, but in lower and higher gears it pulls much better if the RPMs are up a bit so the boost kicks in quicker and of course the car accelerates much much better.

it does
but i did blow up
an engine and a gear box
i bought three cayman gt4 engines and two spare gear boxes.
no i'm serious
i will sell one engine and one gearbox for
sale
if u wire the two flat six in parallel you have a flat 12

The gears are fine on this car. One just has to learn how to drive this car. It may not rev like the 991 GT3 but it still loves to rev and you need to work this car. Mooty is right though - this car has plenty of power when you work her right and she can be just as scary as cars with much more HP. This car also has more HP than you can use on the street

^YES - some one needs to summon him from the across the Border.
I took my baby out for an hour this evening to help decompress after a long day at work. This is what the Dr. would order for lowering blood pressure and putting a day of work behind. I love this freakin car. The more seat time I get the better I understand her and the more connected one becomes with it. I think this car can be misunderstood. It is really a car that yearns you to beat her up. Sort of that girl that wants her hair pulled a little or wants to be spanked. You can not be too nice because she will take advantage of you and stop rewarding you. You have to push her for respect

Well said Jimmy. What I like about this car is that as a daily driver I can drive in a civilized fashion (which is rare), or drive angry in which the car really opens up. Problem is, hearing the song of the flat six at full throat tests the capabilities of your radar detector and your luck!
