I picked up this screw in the passenger side rear tire at Thunderhill 2 weeks ago. It was leaking air.

After talking to 4carl, I thought about leaving the tire with a patch from inside. But, I ultimately replaced with new.

I've tracked with plugged tires and patched tires, never had an issue. A shop here even patches them for free. If I had road hazard insurance I might push for a new one, but then there's the concern of a difference in tread depth and heat cycles between the tires on that axle. Your nail is in a pretty ideal place for repair, fwiw.

The value of his comments are in direct inverse proportion to the number of words he used.

I picked up something similar looking on a drive up to Thunderhill and was freaking out. Turns out it didn't break the tire seal, so when I took it out it was only ~1/4" long and the tire never leaked.

I had a similar thing happen and the tire lasted its full life.

I purchased a Preferred Tire and Wheel Plan at the time of vehicle purchase which pays for "costs associated with the repair, or if not repairable, the replacement of any tire that is damaged due to contact with a road hazard." First, would the tire be safe on the track with a plug repair assuming it holds pressure fine? Second, any suggestions for dealing with the service agreement provider as I am assuming they will definitely just want to have the tire repaired as opposed to replaced.
I had the same issue. Had an inside patch with no tire sensor change. Everything is OK now.

The Porsche premium tire and wheel protection offered at purchase implicitly states, "...never plugged or patched".

I picked up a screw on a rear tire at 700mi. I was bummed but was so glad the added protection was purchased. My local dealer replaced the tire without question and inspected the remaining tires.

Similar thing happened to me. Porsche dealer replaced the tries, they called the insurance company for me and told them tries can't be repaired. Got full refund from the insurance.

Thanks for all the comments/suggestions. Took the car into the local Porsche dealership and had them call the tire and wheel coverage provider directly. Since Porsche recommends replacing any damaged tire as opposed to plugging/patching the provider, RoadVantage, agreed to covering the cost of a new Sport Cup 2 tire completely.

I recall paying a $50 deductible plus tax for the tire claim. The SA couldn't explain the tax, only that it could not be removed from the service charge.
