Overkill??
The gt4 clinched it for me- gt suspension and looks, mid engine, 911 s engine! It's a formula that had me sold as soon as I heard it.
The GT4 is great on the track, but with that said, it shouldn't matter if you track it or not. It is fantastic on the street. The only issue is the front lip hitting on dips, etc. I don't know much about the GTS. The GT4 may have more difficult ingress and egress (I think it sits lower and the steering wheel does not automatically move out of the way. This may be an issue if you have knee, hip or back issues). I would probably make my decision simply on looks and build sheet. More options are available on the GTS. GT4 cost of ownership, when driven only on the street, should not be an issue as it will retain its value and consumables (other than stock tires) should be long lasting.
The GT4 is a great second car regardless of whether you plan to track it or not. I wouldn't want to DD it, but that's not your plan. I'd go for the GT4 and as another post mentions, if you don't way overpay you have a decent shot at avoiding some depreciation cost in the GT4 over the GTS.
not overkill at all. i always wanted more power on my Cayman S on freeway onramps and short jaunts from 0-55. the GT4 delivers that. it's also much sharper and exciting than the S without being less comfortable as a DD. there's no downside that i can think of unless you want a PDK.
You guys are not making the decision easy for me. My hangup is up until 3 yrs ago I was actively involved in Club Racing as well as a DE instructor for 12 years. I still have the urge to drive something more of a real machine rather than sit back and let everything happen around me automatically. Had been looking at a 911 GTS but there is just something about the 911 being a big car esp the GTS is a wide body. Thinking that the GT4 is more size wise closer to my 993 albeit somewhat bigger.

Not at all. GT4 is so civil on the street that it works quite well as a daily drive. It also happens to be an awesome canyon runner and a beast of a machine on the track. If you change your question from GT4 to GT4 clubsport then maaaaay be.
