aftermarket wing uprights
Is anyone interested in aftermarket wing uprights? I have access to some pretty fancy lathes that happen to be sitting idle (oil field) right now, and while I love most things about the car, I'm not crazy about the aesthetics of the uprights. What I am contemplating doing is machining a billet set that more closely resembles the 3RS uprights. Granted the attachment points would be more narrow at top and bottom to continue to mount in the factory spots. I want uprights that have more "heft" to them and don't look so dainty.

agreed, but all the prototypes I have seen are just extensions. I want one that is "wider" so they don't look like pencils holding up the wing.

I'd like to see that too. must be some new lathe i've not heard of.
having held this in my hand off the car, making them is totally doable about of billet. the OEM pieces are cast. It's an extremely complex part. The problem is cost. see, on a GT3 guys back with the 997GT3 had no issue dropping 1500 on a pair of uprights. What will GT4 owners pay? Because of the complexity in the machining it's a lot of machine time, plus finishing. Probably costs a shop $700/pair to make, add in the design and fab and test time, they want to sell for 1400 to cover that plus margins. How many pairs can they sell? 20?? is that worth their time for 14k?
Sure you could cast them, but then you're out 1000s for the castings, and maybe multiple of them to get them right. And make at a lower cost, but price per at low volume doesn't make sense.

Anyone checked out the CF uprights made by www.vorsteiner.com for less than $1000?
Seems like they make high-quality products (no affiliation or actual experience with them but I plan to explore as an option).

haha, agreed....fine, lets get technical. cnc. too much time re-barreling rifles lately.
I'm not doing them to make money, stand by, will get mine pulled apart this week. I dont want cast, nor do I want them pressed out of stock.
