Default Reversing parking sensors.

I'm really struggling to gauge the distance of objects when reversing without any sensors, plus the outside mirror is domed which is really useless.

I contacted my auto electrician and the only type he has are the ones where they require 4 holes drilled into the rear bumper and finished off with matching color plug sensors. I'm not sure I like the idea of spoiling the clean lines with plugs.

I also researched hidden ones that are on the inside of the bumper and no holes but they look like cheap and nasty especially at the low pricing.

Do any GT4's have sensors and what do you think of drilling into the bumper?

TIA

You might be better off with a reversing camera. Looks like it can be done without really affecting the exterior of the car.

Hi James88

You might like to check out these guys who seamlessly retrofitted a rear camera in a Cayman GTS locally in Melbourne. http://autofidelity.com.au/2015-pors...ic-guidelines/

If you really want parking sensors, you could go for an OEM look by retrofitting the 981 GTS rear diffuser which has integrated positions for the sensors so no painting required. You will lose the GT4 diffuser though: http://www.schnellautosports.com/rea...an-models.html

cheers

Np. To be honest I don't really have a problem with the rear of the car, it's the front I struggle with judging. I 'booped' it once on a curb and since then have been parking at least half a meter too far out. It helps that it's a pretty short car so you don't stick out.

Oh yeah I do like that camera, I'll definitely look them up. Thanks

Thanks, I think I'm warming to your 1st suggestion of camera after seeing Dr1ven's links. Thanks guys.

Having had both sensors and a camera on my previous car, I vastly preferred the camera. Sensors can false positive on something and you don't have any way to see that, whereas a camera's angle typically has the edge of the rear bumper in-frame, so you can easily gauge your distance. And of course you don't need to drill as many holes in your bumper or have unsightly plugs sticking out. NavTV makes a kit that integrates with CDR+ or PCM if you have those head units. A few people here have already done it.

All that said, I initially figured this would be my very first mod since it spoiled me so much on my last car, but I've found I don't need it. I still have difficulty gauging distance when backing into places and think I'm about to hit something when I still have 6-8 feet behind me, but I guess I just don't back into tight parallel parking spots and similar areas very often.

Seeing as the diffuser is a functional aero component, I don't recommend Option #2. You don't want a loose rear end at speed!

Found one example of a GT4 NavTV installation: https://rennlist.com/forums/gt4/8857...tallation.html

Found out integrated reversing cameras require an interface module that will modify the stereo screen meaning it will affect the warranty if anything goes wrong with it. Might just do the plugs or nothing...

Only the older ones require modding it. Newer ones like the current NavTV I linked above when used with newer head units (like the one in the GT4) have a plug and play harness.

Thanks James88- good to know as I would not want anyone opening up the PCM either. I was hoping they used the NAV-TV modules- their solution for PCM 3.1 (which incl GT4) is plug and play. Instructions and compatibility list can be found here: https://navtv.com/products/NTV-KIT375/pcm31-xg-cam.html

Apart from plug and play, the NAV TV module also allows a front cam to be installed that is activated on screen by double tapping the defrost switch- useful to help protect the front lip. Here is it installed on a 991:

The challenge is finding someone in Melbourne to do it- the NAV TV importer is in QLD: http://www.audioexpress.com.au/

OEM integration looks great but aftermarket parking sensors will probably be easier and cheaper. Alternatively, we can all park like Bardman

I don't really think that I am an appropriate role model in this case.

My Porsche Service has installed the rear parking sensors. I am parking in an underground park and it is quite tight, hence decided to do that. It is not original equipment, but works fine. Porsche somehow doesnt want the original equipment installed.

Warranty is not a problem as Porsche Service installed themselves. I will put a photo later.
