Me too.

Like many of us, I'd love to see a broader selection of colors available.

Ultraviolet, Iris Blue, Brewster Green, Arena Red, Racing Yellow, Seal Grey!

Great stuff!

Of course they pass some of that to the end consumer, but for the most part they are very reluctant for deviation.

There was a good opening article in Panorama a few months ago discussing PTS, and I personally have seen what it takes for BMW (wouldn't be that different for others) to deviate from the factory colors. I had the privilege of private factory tours in both their Munich and Spartanburg factories, and you can see the process from end to end, cars being painted in batches (sometimes hundreds at a time and their carcasses stored in multi-story bays until assembly time), having an Individual color really throws a wrench as far as operational fluidity.

In the case of the BMW 1///M, up until the end of production BMW did not allow any color other than the factory 3 colors (Black Sapphire Metallic, Alpine White, and Valencia Orange). This despite various royalty (incl the Prince of Bavaria who you would thing BMW would accommodate!) and middle eastern 'money isn't an option' pleas. At the tail end of the models production, BMW offered a handful of one-off colors such as Mamba Green (and a couple of others in blue and yellow) and that marked the official swam song of the car. It would be quite appropriate to have the GT4 sunset in a similar fashion...

I am learning about PTS all the time, Buteo. And one of the things
I have learned is to check on rumors before folks declare them as
facts. We will see if/when this story is confirmed by PAG...and I will
report it to all here on Rennlist.

https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...11r-pts-4.html

I have done arduous work here at Rennlist on behalf of clarifying for
many the inner workings of PTS & the Custom Ordering process. Just
four of the threads I have started now total over one million views!

The tone of your post is one that can be interpreted as 'derisive'
or 'mocking'. And I think it's undeserved.

Just saw this post today.

I was not trying to be derisive nor was I mocking you or your knowledge of porsche and the PTS process. From my first comment stating, I think most of us know who you are. You are one of the most well known RLers. I was one those million views on multiple threads that you made on PTS.

But at the time (and you may of discovered if true) you weren't sure if cars were sent out to a third party for painting. I'm sorry if those comments came across as mocking, they had no intentions of it.

Thanks for clarifying that, Buteo. The principal thing
of value to me at Rennlist is 'credibility', so I try very
hard to report correctly on these topics.

As I said to Whoopsy after he posted that ALL PTS at
Porsche is done at a 3rd party, I find it hard to believe!

If so, it's a rather new practice. That is not what I know
to have been true in the past. So we are trying very hard,
through various sources, to confirm the veracity of the
information this gentleman received during his visit to
Leipzig a few weeks ago. And when we do, it will be
reported here on Rennlist.
