Default 1st to 2nd upshift gear grind

I noticed that when I shift a little under 3000rpm from 1st to 2nd and make a pause in between shifting, since I'm breaking it in, I sometimes get a very mild grind/graunch noise. Has anyone noticed this? I did a search and can't find anything. Maybe I shouldn't baby it and just throw it right into 2nd. I'm just used to prior cars - m3 e93, evo x gsr, and rsx type s - that all liked to grind if you shifted too quickly up from 1 to 2.

I noticed that very occasionally during break-in and just chalked it up to releasing the clutch a little too quickly on those occasions, but I don't remember hearing it recently (I've got 3400 miles now), so maybe it was a break-in thing? Or maybe I'm just driving it better.

Yeah thanks. I've heard it three times, but I'm very early in break in at 550 km.

I've noticed it more likely to happen when the car is cold and I'm sloppy on the clutch but it happens very infrequently.

It's always cold in Alberta, but I try to run it above 6C. I think I'm just going to give it less pause between shifts and shift at higher revs, as I've only noticed it when I shift slow and at low revs.

Like you said - every car has some issues at 1->2

That said, this one is the smoothest I've owned

Like everyone said easy when the gearbox is cold.

We used to have the problem with lotus. We cured it with a mixture of redline MT90 and GM synchromesh friction modifeyed fluid.

I originally found it from a Honda board they were notorious for bad syncros. Totally took away the grind when cold. Shinoo from sector111 now sells it . Carl

Similar issue with s2000 - change in fluids also usually fixed that problem.

I have noticed it a couple times including once today. I'm at 325 miles of break-in. I thought I just wasn't being smooth enough which may have been the case as I was quick shifting from a light and enjoying the acceleration.

you should only need to pause as long as it takes the revs to drop so that the synchros have less work to do. If you pause too long, the synchros have more to do and when cold could cause the grinding effect.

This is what I've done for years with all of my cars when cold.Started doing it in 62 with my 56 Pontiac three on the tree... Works great.. Still use it with the GT4..

With easier and more spirited shifting, I haven't noticed it. I have approximately 950 miles so far. I try not to drive the car if it is below 40F.

I have never experienced it in all 6,500 miles on my car. It might not be anything huge but I would bring it to your dealers attention because it could be a synchro problem.

Don't know if anyone remembers driving an old 328 Ferrari.
The factory advise was to go from 1st to 3rd and avoid 2nd till the gearbox oil was warm. carl
