For those wondering of the changes. I had one of the early initial ones. In my case the new was ~ 2" shorter, threads started ~ .625" earlier and the end towards the threads is now thickened. In addition the thread shape has changed to a more flatter instead of rounded which makes it harder to install by hand even if you had the old in previously. Rennline also now recommends that 1 spacer be installed for correct fitment.
Everything you stated is correct, except for the spacer. The install instructions that come with these are our previous generation 911 instructions, we're in the process of updating that, but NO spacer is needed with this new design, only the rubber o-ring to ensure the tow hook is 'timed' correctly (ie. horizontal).
