Oh that smell... I love that burnt oil and hot metal smell. It is intoxicating!

I actually slowly inhale through my flared nostrils to fully appreciate that smell after I pull into my garage after driving my GT4 . I always drive it with sport mode and full exhaust mode on. Always followed by a ****ty grin on my face and a slow walk around the back of the car to full bask in that scent. Then I would slowly backup the steps to the house with a backward glance and still the ****ty grin plastered on my face.

I look forward to that burnt oil and hot metal smell every time I drive my GT4. Yeah.. love that smell.

That list just ended last year ...
One of the best things I ever did was join Rennlist
I do miss John D though....
I never thought of myself as an old-timer... yet I joined the lists in late 1998... I do miss the personalities, like Der-Cupmeister: What have you done lately to earn cooper-cup points?

I understand from a good friend and fellow Rennlister that he passed away
Well, luckily I have been pretty much hands off for a few yrs now. Things are running well, but back a few yrs ago, when I was struggling to pull off the damn woodruff key off the crank, to change out the oil pump gear and main front seal, ( always a fun job )
I managed to do this
Regards
Ed

Ouch - that qualifies. Yes cooper-cup points require blood letting.
And Jim has passed, quite a while ago now. I remember trying to get off from work so I could fly in to help work on his 944 16v while he was undergoing treatments... I couldn't get off but I did donate quite a bit of time ordering parts as well as $$ to the cause. It felt great that he got some time to enjoy it.
I think Candy still has the old girl.

Glad I used the Search function for this one, I have a '11 987 with 7k miles I just got about a month ago. I've driven stick since I started driving.. which wasn't too long ago -- but I do believe I know how to drive properly. No riding the clutch, no clutch abuse, and I normally even am off the clutch below or on 1k revs when I start off. I have 100k miles on my 335, and the clutch feels pretty solid still - and I never have had that type of smell coming from my BM. But I do notice a hottish smell.. Not bad - just hot from the 987 It permeates from around the rear wheels. I am not sure what the official engine break in period is, and this is a low mileage car - but I wanted to see what the thoughts were on this. Should I get it checked out?

Note: the tires were brand new a few hundred miles ago, but its not really a rubbery smell.

Sounds like my experience with my 987S with low mileage. I'd not really worry about it.

I love the smell of a Porsche after a spirited drive- nothing better. In retrospect; my 991 GT3 has only 4800 miles and I either do not recall her ever smelling or I never noticed because it is nothing unfamiliar.

Noticed this as well after a spirited drive after I parked it in storage.
