Not in any way is this a criticism of those that did put the protective film on their cars as I bet if it were a free factory option we would all have it, but like all options there's always a cost involved. In the threads about protecting the paint like this it sounds like everyone has it and there are a ton of "must have" type comments, yet I suspect most GT4s don't have this protection.

I want to get it, but I know in Norway it will be expensive so I wanted to hear some thoughts around this from those that didn't get their cars wrapped. Both objective and subjective opinions are welcome!

Cheers.

Look at money2536's GT3 thread. He doesn't like protective wraps. Says they're like plastic on your sofa.

Hmmm, each to their own but I don't recall running our sofa down our rock infested roads here in CO - nor the equivalent type of exposure that a piece of furniture would see in normal use.

Having lived in the sunbelt for 11 years, I would say that the amount of debris on the road was much less than in CO.

If you are going to track your car and expect to sell it, your are better off with a bra. If you lease and return to dealer, who gives.

Often, the dealer will. Most leases include possible charge-backs for unreasonable wear and tear.

I feel the same way. It's a car. You drive it. I see no need for an expensive car condom. I've owned a lot of sporty cars and never had an issue with rock chips.

Blue painters tape is a hell of a lot cheaper.

Holey cow, what rock free planet do you live on - your must never go to the track...I guess that makes sense. The track is like a constant sand-blasting, and as you move up the speed and tire compound it gets much morse, especially if you find yourself on the bumpers of other drivers. Really surprised that 3M painters tape is holding up given the divots I see in Xpel/3M bras.

Agreed...have put it on each of my last 4 cars and feel it has been money well spent. These cars sit very low, and rock and dust trauma is aplenty.

Can't really see the cost being the reason for not doing it. If you paid more than $200 000 for you car in Norway, surely another 1-2% for paint protection is fairly reasonable?

I'm tracking my cars so for me it's a no brainer. And as time goes the ppfs get better and better and more invisible.

I understand people who a don't give a damn or garage queens who get a layer of wax every weekend do without. But cost shouldn't really be an issue.

Some of us don't have local access to a quality installer.

Depositing your car for a 3-4 day job in another city and arranging the logistics of drop off/pick up is not so simple. This is not to mention the potential damage to the car driving on the interstate that can occur while traveling to the installer. You spend thousands of dollars on a condom and the last thing you want to do is collect rock chips on the way there. Then you get into the idea of trailering the car, which is a hassle on to itself....

There are reasons. I'm still undecided.

I had my entire car wrapped in xpel. I cant stand rock chips and because PA uses rocks for snow/ice and they never clean them up.

The detail was the multi-day process on mine, it only took xpel a few hours to install once the car was clean.
