Photo comparison of the GT4 and 991 GT3
The GT4 was surprisingly close in size to the 991 GT3. I always thought the 911 chassis would be larger due to the space needed for the rear seats.

Great shots. Seeing them side by side I think the GT4 front end is much nicer with a cleaner more cohesive design. From the back end I have to go with the GT3 with slightly lower tail lights and less of a big butt. From the side it's a tie for me. Both beautiful cars.

These are the most comprehensive side by side pics I have seen. I had my White GT4 parked side by side with a White GT3 at a cars and coffee. Most non Porsche initiated viewers thought both cars were the same.
For my part I did find them very similar at a glance, even knowing the differences.
Despite owning a GT4 I still prefer the 911 headlights and very much prefer the 911 rear end. The Cayman rear end is nice and swoopy.. But I just still feel that the 911 has the best rear end of any car and no other car can emulate it.
I also happen to prefer the cleaner front end of the non GT 911's. But I understand the functionality of both the GT3 and GT4 fronts.
I prefer the engineering and balance of the GT4, and looks wise I prefer the sides, because of the vents (edit: err intakes).
I'd still trade my GT4 and throw in one or two kids for the GT3RS though!

I drove my friend's Sapphire Blue GT3 to this photoshoot. The front end of the GT4 was a bit intimidating behind me. The bumper looks like a "frown".
Felt a strange disconnect with the PDK in normal mode as it kept wanting to goto the highest gear possible but that debate is a well beaten horse...

Interesting comments on the overall, and specific angle, looks of the cars. These photos really allow this comparison, thanks Pete!
Aesthetics tend to be personal, as is taste, but most people agree on great art. Both these cars are very pretty, but I do prefer the rear hind quarter of the 911--the way the fenders swoop from the roof line down to the wheel edges is unique, and distinctive, and really "sexy." Although the hip line curve of the 911 starting at the headlights and going all the way under the greenhouse to the tail lights is pretty flat, it is classic 911. The same line on the GT4 (981 Cayman in general) has the two fender humps that while subtle, are distinctive. I think these two humps are what makes the 981 Cayman visually appealing to many folks. I have also heard comments regarding the uncluttered front apron of the GT4 compared to the rather busy GT3. Maybe it's the color, but the GT3 looks lower, and consequently wider, to me.
As for PP's comment about the PDK-S, I too was surprised that the normal mode in PDK-S was about as lackluster as the PDK in my GTS. Both come alive in sport mode, or when shifted manually. While I miss the PDK in my GTS, I really like the manual in the GT4. (But I would have bought a GT4 with PDK just as easily...)
