Default Tire difference?

Is there any actual difference in the construction of the MICHELIN PILOT SPORT CUP 2 for the GT4 vs. the ones made for the Ferrari beside the price and maybe a stamp/letter on the sidewall?
The price difference is about $350 for a set and the "Ferrari" front tires are in stock while the GT4's have been out of stock for a while?

I don't know about internal construction but I've definitely seen different tread patterns between N-Spec and non N-Spec Michelin Super Sports in the same size.

As has been posted many times, the differences between N spec and non-N spec are not published and remain to be researched, divined, or speculated.

Over many years whenever I've done the research I've found (among the various tire brands and models) differences in load ratings, tread patterns, tire construction, weight, tread width, circumference, tread depth, etc. Sometimes I couldn't find any difference which doesn't mean there weren't any. So exMB is right, there is a high probability of differences. I'm just answering your next question of what are the differences? No one here will know for sure all the differences, or any of them for that matter.

That said, I'm presently on non-N spec MPSS and have no worries, but where there's a choice of N or non-N, I choose the N.

I currently have the ferrari specs on my car as I needed a set quick and the porsche spec was out of stock. Thread pattern is the same. Tires fit perfectly. EVERY marking on the tires are 100% the same as far as I could see.

I would be very, very surprised if the tire compound is different at all, or at least to the degree that you can feel anything. I can't feel any difference, or see any difference in lap times either.

One difference that I l really like about the Ferrari spec is that the outer wall construction is slightly different. The tire has a "lip" where it meets the rim that sticks out a bit from the rim that the Porsche spec does not have. What makes this nice is that when you get close to a curb the tire lip will hit the curb first and protect your rim from curb rash. I think it nice.

In the gtr world there was a few people who swore the 295 ferrari spec mpss had a little special sauce to it and seemed to have a little more bite to them. No real data, just how people felt. I had a set as well and they seemed fine?

orthojoe posted this in another thread:

"Nope. I've used both N spec and K spec tires on my GT3 and they are not exactly the same.

Sidewall design is different and therefore so is the load rating. N spec has a flat sidewall and the K spec has a 'bumper' flare to protect the rims from curbing

N spec also has a touch more grip, but wears quicker.
K spec tread last longer, but heat cycle out before the tread wears away, so the tread life is of no benefit.

Get N spec"

Yes there is. I have used on my GT3, when I was in a bind. As others indicated there is a noticeable difference between the two in terms of appearance, but also the car drove a little different. Ride was a little better with Ferrari "K", but it had slightly less grip, and it's wet performance was worse than the N spec. Granted differences were small if you drive it on the street, but certainly noticeable if you drive the car over 8/10th like on the track. I guess if you are in a bind like I was, it probably is ok, but if you can wait, then I would recommend to hold off till you get the "N" rated tires. Mark
