You are most likely right ...

It is just interesting that out of so far 908 possible VINs for NA (starting at...2000) only 820 cars can be so far identified/located (either by the Build Sheets or CarFax traces)

Default New 981 Spyder

Recently took delivery of my new Spyder (VIN # WPOCC2A85GS152536), triple black with platinum wheels. Great deal from Checkered Flag Porsche in Virginia Beach and great trade-in value on my 2006 Cayman S with only 22,000 miles. How do I find out what build # my Spyder is?

now we just wait for Porsche to catch up with all the missing VINs as the cars get registered for warranty.

This is just for USA / Canada. For Europe / RoW, the VIN structure is different.

This said, the 'European' VIN is specific to the Spyder, i.e. you can track the number of Spyders produced. On German forums, they report VINs ending by c. 1600 - or c. 1500 Spyders allocated to end-customers, not counting press cars, preseries...

Similarly, the number of Spyders allocated to the NA market is effectively c. 800.

So, as a rough estimate, this gives c. 2,300 Spyders produced worldwide...

It would have been interesting if your car was made after the end

LOL, I know but I wasn't sure it was going to materialize... didn't someone call the end earlier before my car was built?
