I think it sounds like the Road Runner (at least he's fast...)

I didn't realize the 981's made this sound during the locking process so I reached out to my SA today and asked if he could disable that during the PDI process.

I will let everyone know what I find out.

On a side note, does anyone know if there is still an auto door locking feature once the car reaches a certain speed? It's a bit of an obscure feature but I had it enabled on my 987 and found it useful.

In the user menu itself you can have the system lock the car upon drive off or I think engine start. Setting a certain speed may be possible at the dealer, I don't know n

Ahh, thank you. If this is in the user menu then I'm all set. In my 987 the setting was to lock at 5 MPH but only the dealer computer could access this setting. I just want it to lock once I get moving.

Yes, it is in a user menu....

I'd like to see a comprehensive list of what can be changed via coding.

Same here, and in doing a bunch of research on this since I code E9x BMWs for people, where there are tons of options, the only options I've seen discussed for the 981 are comfort windows and disabling the acoustic alarm confirmation. I've also seen posts indicating that dealer techs can see a bunch of other options in PIWIS that are intended to make the car compliant with different regions (and disable features in regions where they may be prohibited), but that those options are grayed out on PIWIS. On the BMW side we have an app called NCS Expert, which is what the factory uses for various purposes and which is far more capable than what the dealers have, but which is also clearly not intended for widespread use considering that most of the interface is in German even after you switch it to English mode. I would bet a similar app exists for Porsche, but maybe they've been better about keeping it in-house.

In another of our cars in the family -- one that was half the price of a base Cayman, and model year half a decade ago -- it will do a gentle double beep on regular locking and if you pressed the lock button again within a few seconds it will do a louder honk. That seems like it'd be ideal. But then again, on Porsche, a repeated lock activates the "passengers in car" mode

If given the choice, I think I'd rather not have the double honk. I guess I'll ask for this change at my next visit too.
