Valetophobia
#31
I was at a swanky place in greenwich and the valet was arguing with me I couldn't park my car. A place where he obviously gets some big tips to park all kinds of nice cars. I first offered 20 he wouldn't take it. I finally went irate and threw a fifty at him and said I park it or I'm leaving. He let me park. The depreciation that happens in these cars if an incident occurs is far greater then any tip I can give a valet. If that depreciation has to happen better me then someone else. Most are cool and will let me park or even leave up front.
The idea of throwing $50.00 at a valet to park my own car to me is insanity.
Sorry no offense.
I think I need to change professions.

Ok well I understand most of you disagree with this but this is how it went down. As I said valet was mandatory so I had no choice other than to park on the street a fair distance from the restaurant.
So I pulled into the valet and saw that there were three spots out front... filled. Spot #1 was a 996 cab. Spot #2 was a BMW X5 or whatever. I can't even recall what was in spot #3.
Pulled up to the valet stand. Valet let my wife out. Then I got out, leaving the car running and door open. Valet walks up to me and I say...
"Sorry but I am still paranoid about my car, it is still new and I was hoping you could park it within sight..."
He says...
"Yes sir let me see, the thing is it is very crowded tonigh..." he looks down and sees the 20 in my left hand. and continues...
"You know what, I will just move the SUV (the BMW) and put your car right up front"
Car never left my sight. I let him park it and then when I left I just took the keys and drove it out. That $20 was well worth the peace of mind while I ate. Plus the wife was suitably impressed and she quite enjoyed her birthday dinner.

You can't put a price on peace of mind. Either during dinner, or afterwards.
