Default GT4 gear whine.

I recall some saying that they are getting a little gear whine with their GT4's.
This takes gear whine to the next level, what an amazing track/road car.

There really isn't any gear whine. Mostly tire and road noise. The noise changes more with road speed than with engine speed. Not really a big deal.

That gearbox uses straight cut gears . That's how they sound, one of the reasons you don't want them on a street car. Carl

That is pretty whiney. It sounds like a Kenwood mixer. Except you don't get a cake at the end.

I'm amazed they managed to make that thing road legal. Quite a triumph.

The b7 rs4 had straight cut gears - the whine was one of the very few things I didn't like about the car.

I don't really detect any gear whine on the gt4.

I love the sound of gear whine. Makes the thing sound like a proper machine and not an appliance.

On the subject of the GT4's gear whine, I was pleasantly surprised with it. From what I'd read, I thought it might be one of those noises that enthusiasts would just say they liked to hear as part of the mechanical/raw nature of the car but that at the end of the day would be an overlaid noise that may or may not really enhance the experience and that would cause non-enthusiasts to ask you what was wrong with your car. In my limited break-in style driving thus far (part throttle, staying below 4K RPM), I've found that the gearbox whine is very well implemented as just being part of the "sonic signature" of the car. It doesn't give the impression that it's overpowering or diluting the rest of the car's sounds at all. It's most pronounced at lower RPMs and milder throttle applications (as the RPMs climb to 3-4K and with more throttle, the engine and exhaust take over), but even cooler than that for me is that the high-pitched nature of the gearbox whine sounds very futuristic, sort of a quasi-electric car noise. I like it a lot, and I can't imagine it ever growing tiresome. Instead, I get a choice between a future-y sound during casual driving or an already delicious exhaust sound when driving a bit harder, the latter of which I imagine will only get better once I finish my 1K break-in.

Not transmission gears, though, right? I thought the straight-cut gears were just for the AC and oil pumps.

it's normal.
when stopped, put the clutch in.
when driving, go faster.
you wont hear anything.
this is a sports car, not a sewing machine.
too much complaining, PAG will put pdk in it...

Love gear whine. The Richmond 5 speed in my 69 Chevelle whines a lot, but when you spin it to redline along with big block block exhaust - incredible. The super smoothed out sounds of many modern performance cars is lame. Thank you Porsche for the gear whine and other great noises in the GT4.

I believe it's Anglesey race circuit in Wales. You see Chris Harris shoot some of his videos there too.

Never been there but it's an amazing setting for a track.
