Vehicle Security???
I'm not sure what kind of security system the GT4 comes with, an alarm, immobilizer or both, however I was wondering if any of you have considered installing a supplementary security system or even a vehicle tracking system like Lojack on your GT4's?

Your GT4 does come with a number of sensors from the alarm side. Even the glove box has a micro switch to trigger the alarm, and supposedly the car has a tilt sensor in case it gets towed. Oddly enough all the switches are hidden extremely well and rather hard to access. The GT4, just like any other Porsche out there, also has immobilizer included from the factory. Don't lose sleep over it. The car is as well protected from the factory as it could be relative to cars from other manufacturers.
I've never really heard of Porsches getting broken into and jacked via hot wiring. The security system is certainly one of the better ones. From what I understand, when a thief really wants a newer Porsche, he/she would just tow it ... no point breaking into the car and trying to drive the thing away. Of course if you are worried then install some sort of tracking device like Lo-jack?

I'm not sure either, but I'll probably need to find out since my insurance asks this question when I set up a new car with them. Haven't considered a supplementary system. Even if the electronics in modern cars weren't hideously complicated for an aftermarket system to tap into, exotic/rare cars just aren't stolen very often. The top 2 cars stolen last year were the Accord and Civic, and others were the Camry/Corolla, F-150, Silverado, Ram, Altima/Maxima, and the perennial Acura Integra. Thieves want something that will be a needle in a haystack for the cops to find, which is why the Civic Hybrid my wife had a while back was actually more expensive to insure than my M3.

Immobilizers are required equipment in Canada. According to the manual, there's an alarm as well. Personally, the only supplementary equipment I would install will tap into the fuse box. No splicing OEM wiring for me.

Your car has immobilizer and a number of sensors for the alarm. All the hoodpins, door switches, and micro-switch for glove compartment are hidden very well. Supposedly there is a tilt sensor too! The immobilizer isn't an easy one to defeat, and I believe professionals nowadays don't bother wasting their time on that either.
Pretty much the only way to steal the car is to tow it away as far as I know. No security system would be able to safeguard your car 100%. So I wouldn't really park a car like this in harlem at 3am ...

I would not install an additional device. Many mechanics today have no clue how the car work overall. They just check the error codes and then replace everything. No real repairs anymore.
My story:
My Cayenne Turbo was originally delivered to Italy and then during the crisis sold to a German dealer and I bought it. It had a second alarm system, which I understood is a standard in Italy. First month, it started going off 4am in the mornings. It was very emberassing against the neighbours. Service didnt have a clue. After they deinstall it, they were able to find a defective sensor for the window on the back door.
