Default Metallic vs. Base colours

Well looks like my allocation will be coming in potentially. Now the build. My big question is blue vs white. Blue is so striking. It's gorgeous. White is a close second. But, I want to keep this car for life, and I'm worried about blue's metallic replicability. I got keyed in my world rally world rally blue STI before, and that car never got a perfect paint match. It was so painful. Sadly, I was keyed on my alpine white 1M, as well, and it was perfectly repainted and colour matched.

Go for white for long term beauty, or blue for perfect right now, maybe not so perfect, given how people in this city like to key beautiful cars? Thanks!

I would go with your first choice blue. Can't worry about people keying your car. You just need a good paint shop.

This. Settling on color will be a major regret especially if you plan to keep long-term. Avoiding certain leather options due to wear issues (inner door sills) is one thing, but color? No way.

Yeah, I think you're right. I know I will be happy with either. This is a similar dilemma to the 1M: valencia orange or alpine white. Short term giddy or long term beauty. But, the blue will always make me happy. The question is how will the city be to my car. I'm wary about whether a paint shop can actually colour match this beauty. I figure I won't be using it as a DD, so less likely to be keyed. I don't know, I keep vacillating. Either will make me happy.

In terms of just color choice, white is classic and very clean. Blue is bold and more likely to catch the eye.

Do you not have any good paint shops in your area? Maybe I'm spoiled from having a selection of truly great shops in my area, but a blue metallic factory-offered paint should not be difficult to match. This isn't a complex multi-stage paint process like cars with candy apple finishes, tintcoat, pearl, matte, or (shudder) the 918's Liquid Metal process.

As for your immediate appeal vs timelessness dilemma, if SBM worries you in that regard, maybe split the difference with DBM? I love blue cars and SBM was just too bright for me in direct sunlight. DBM was a bit darker than I'd planned (Aqua would've been perfect, but not $5500 perfect), but I feel blue still offers something that your garden variety white doesn't, and in this case the more muted hue than I had planned may work well toward toning down the otherwise "loud" presence this car projects, particularly with that wing. I do love the shots of the CWM car in this thread (especially Page 2), I'm going to stay strong with my choice.

First thing I would do is "STOP living in fear".
If you settle and get white you will have regrets for life.
Go with the blue and be done with it.
IMPO the GT4 is an exotic car and deserves an exotic color.
White cars these days are a dime a dozen.
BLUE.

Well at least this way you won't be saying, "I've made a huge mistake."

I went for CWM too - I like the extra shine from it. Also got told that CWM is easier to colour match upon repaint - not sure if this is true though. I had a carrera white car before and even the OPC paint shop couldn't match other 3 years old panels.

I've gotten more compliments on Sapphire Blue than anything. All the employees I talked to at my dealer, my family, random people on the street, other Porsche owners, etc, etc. The most common comment went like this, "That blue is so beautiful. Good you did not go black, white, grey, silver, etc." If you don't mind some attention, prepare for people to take cell phone pics, lol!

Regardless of what color you get (and they all look good on this car), the GT4 is getting attention, so I figured just go with the most dynamic non-PTS color, which was SB.
