Wouldn't it be easier to simply change the final drive instead of changing gears?
The short answer is that the preferred goal is to change the spacing between individual gears, not just shorten everything across the board while keeping the relative spacing the same. And apparently it also wouldn't be as easy as it sounds due to reliability issues encountered by people who have tried aftermarket ring and pinion setups, whereas aftermarket gears have been bulletproof. There's a thread on it in here somewhere containing some very detailed info on this proposition.

On most Porsches, making the ratios closer is a bigger benefit than R&P, but I think the GT4 has enough mid-range torque to really benefit from an R&P change.
I have deposits down on the .2GT3, .2RS, and GT4RS at 3 NON-CALIFORNIA dealerships. Was late to the party on the GT4 and paid extra to get one, but not missing the boat on the next generation of cars.
