GT4 at port in San Diego - held for update?
My SA told me that my car has arrived at the port in San Diego, but will be delayed 5-15 days for parts to arrive for an "update". Does anybody have any information on this update?

My SA warned me that the GT cars are often held at port. He said they are making constant updates on the GT cars and if a new update has been released they will hold the car in port till it can be installed. He said he has a GT3 in port that has been there for three weeks.

Any insight into the nature of these "updates" from GT3 experiences? Sounds like it's more than software if they're waiting on parts, unless Porsche has said they need to hold cars for a software update in development that they simply haven't shipped yet....
And also, if it's important enough to hold cars at the port, wouldn't it also be important enough to have existing owners bring their cars back in? Or does Porsche just cover that when people come in for oil changes and the like? That would be unfortunate for people who don't want to pay dealership prices for that kind of service....

If it's anything like BMW's process, the port centers are closer to miniature factories than a typical dealer's service area. I remember watching some TV segment on BMW's vehicle prep centers and it was amazing how much they could do.

Yeah, not so lucky over here, but frankly all I got out of my Ultimate Service was a few oil changes, a trans and diff oil change at 1200 miles, a cabin microfilter, and spark plugs, if memory serves. BMW's service intervals on most things are long enough that by the time you need them, the cost of the service over your ownership period of the car is pretty negligible, and since I ran a BBK on my front axle and aftermarket pads on the rear, I never got any brake service out of the deal, so I don't think I'll miss (not so) Ultimate Service.

Fair enough. I had the mental image of the same guy who drives the car off the RoRo and, eventually, onto the transporter, doing the updates when he had some downtime.
