Default Best 19” Track Tire Options for GT4

I have a set of 19” Apex wheels on my GT4 (9.0”/10.5”). No suspension mods/camber plates. I just burned through a set of Yokohama AD08R’s in 255/35 and 295/30.

I need a replacement tire, but supplies are limited in that front tire size. I’m thinking about going with a 235/35 in front. That would make the front OD about a half inch smaller than the rear, but opens up more tire options. My current setup is equal diameter front to back.

Two questions: (1) Any concerns about the 1/2 inch smaller OD up front? and (2) any recommendations on a tire that would be more aggressive than the AD08R and available in these sizes? I can’t find Hoosiers for example in these sizes. The Toyo Proxes RR appears to be an option.

Thank You!

AD08r are ancient, I believe they have been superseded by AD09r. There are tons of options for arrive and drive in similar ballpark- RE71RS, Cup2's, Goodyear SC3, RT660, Yoko A052's (stickiest but least durable of this list). I would try 265/295 RT660's and see how you like them. You could also give RE71RS a shot although not many reviews yet. To run 265's up front you may need camber plates, although if your tracking a lot its a no brainer to put them in. Tarrett plates are very good. For stickier options you can run Hoosiers in 265/295 (need to trailer), or Goodyear SC3R (DOT legal but you are stuck if it rains). You could also run 245/295 Hoosiers on stock 20" wheels with no camber mods.

thank you to everyone who responded. I’m going to check out the 245/295 Hoosier setup, since I don't have camber plates installed but do trailer the car. Appreciate the feedback!

What's up Emos! (I follow you on IG). I have the RT660 and like them quite a bit for track, street, and rain.

hey! thanks for finding me here! good to know about the RT660. I have those on our Daytona kit car that we are building, actually. I think I will try the Hoosiers since I have a separate set of wheels for street driving. Although, in the
19” size they don’t offer a 245 width, so I’d have to run a 235 on 9” wheel, which looks like it will work from the specs I’ve researched.

FWIW, Based on only a few track sessions, I’d say the RE-71rs are at least as grippy as their predecessor. They are supposedly more durable as well, but that remains to be seen in my case.

Would hesitate to run 235s especially if you don't have a track alignment. Front grip will already be limited.

Cup2 is available 265/35 19 (it's an M0 spec according to Tirerack)
I have 9.5 x 19s up front currently with RE-71R in 265/35 19 and the Cup2 will be my replacement.

the RT660s run wide, so make you get the actual measurements.., especially out back

Time to buy new track tires for the 19” x 9 & 10” wheels on my ‘14 cayman s. I tried cup 2’s in 245/35 and 275/35 but really chewed up the front tires. I’ve just installed Ohlins R&T coilovers, GT4 sway bars, front lower arms and rear toe links so I could set camber to 2.5 front and 2.0 rear. Hopefully this helps with tire wear.

I picked 245 & 275 tires since that looked right for 9&10” wheels but I see many GT4 drivers running 255 & 285 tires on the same width wheels. Does the additional tire width make up for less than optimal tire to wheel sizing?

planning to try RE-71RS tires

Yoko A052 are excellent.

I run 295 35 (27.2") and 255 35 (26").

Bit more rake and obv lower at front.

I wasn't able to get the 265 40 which would have got the car riding at standard height plus or minus.

Great grip, great early laps, good in wet/damp but wears fast.

981 GT4 with rim sizes: 19x9 & 19x10.5
Last weekend we gave the Falken RT 660s a go; as many have stated, it's a good tire with terrific grip - felt better than the GY SC3 200TW. They are a little vague, but provide excellent grip.
Only negative is that they don't make a 295/30/19; thus, we tried the 295/35/19 with 265/35/19 up front.
The rear tires quickly had a polished ring at the top of the sidewall, where it rubbed the fender lip (see picture). Stock springs, but with a track alignment and rear toe links.
Not dangerous, but not ideal either.
While the Falken 305 rear width is a 30 height, I'm concerned that they will rub the tread, which could be dangerous.
Eager to hear back from anyone after they run the Bridgestone RE71RS 255/35/19 & 285/35/19 on my rim sizes with a 981 GT4.
Thanks RL!
