TopGear 981 GT4 Catless Header Review
#92
Installed these headers a few days ago, cut the mini-cats out, ran J spacers with the smallest orifice, 200 miles later no CEL. In short, they sound absolutely glorious and definitely make power, the dip at 3500 is pretty much gone as well.

I've been comparing data from track days before and after headers and tune after a recent event at CMP. Bottom line? Zero difference in straight line performance. Overall lap times were off significantly, but everyone there said the same thing. Taking corner speeds out of the analysis, and just looking at the acceleration curves I can't see a difference. I'm a bit disappointed in that, but they certainly sound good on track so it seems faster!

I did have CELs on both banks even with the catalytic version and Top Gear sent me two extenders that fixed the problem, if you get them install J style extenders so you don’t have to pay for labor twice.
Alexander Kilcoyne is the one who helped me with my purchase, really nice guy, he sent me the extenders for free.

Have any of you successfully handled the CEL and, even more important, the readyness monitors?
Those running the O2 extenders, do all your monitors go to ready? If some are still set to "not ready", how many? In my experience with other cars it is normally 2, but if we can get it down to 1 I'd be good.

The car is finally done, and I will pick it up. The shop mentioned how well the product seems to be made. But what ended up taking so long was that Soul did not send gaskets for the headers and instructed the shop to reuse the gaskets from the OEM headers. They were shocked because they didn't think this was a best practice. After inspecting the gaskets, they were uncomfortable reusing the original ones and had Porsche send new ones. They said it was the equivalent of reusing a condom. Can it be done? Sure. Should it be done? No. The shop is Dobson Stuttgart in Seattle, and they are very reputable, so I took their word for it. I will let you know soon!
And yea. I did chicken out about the catless headers. After tons of research and talking with people, I don't think the hassle was worth the nominal gains over the high-flow sport cats.

I ordered mine through Sierra here in the States and they came within like 4 days drop-shipped from the UK.
Wild that the catted version are still throwing codes. Seems the J spacers are simply the way to go, catted or not. I used the smallest orifice they came with (non-catted), granted I'm only about 200 miles in and no codes. In my experience though, a CEL should have popped up within the first drive cycle, if it's going to happen. Knock on wood.

J extenders fixed that for good

Great thread! Hoping to save a few mod dollars. So in summary the recommendation is to get catless with 02 extenders and a tune to maximize use and avoid any CELs? Can someone share the link to the extenders that are used with these headers that work well? Gaskets for sure but new bolts needed?

I got my spacers from this outfit:
https://www.emdauto.com/products/j-s...43065835127043
I run them with the smallest orifice and NO tune - still under CPO, no CEL 500 miles later.
I got new OEM gaskets, but reused my original bolts, these aren't torque to yield bolts, but if you want shiny new bolts, by all means.

If anyone's interested, I have a pair of SOUL O2 spacers off my GT4 that I will sell for $75 inc. shipping within the CONUS. PM me.

I’ve had my car to the track with the TG catless headers and stock exhaust a couple of times now. I love the sound, but I’m headed to a different track with a 103 dB sound limit next month. I’m worried that it might exceed that. Anyone had issues with this setup? Has anyone found turndown tips that fit the odd sized stock tips?

Installed these recently when my buddy went back to stock and sold me his set. They sound great and now I don’t have concerns about blowing out the cats on track.
