Default Adjusting the O in P O R S C H E

The O in my rear logo is slightly crooked. Not sure why - there hasn't been any damage or paintwork, but alas.

Is there any way to remove and adjust/reinstall it without buying a new logo? Can I hit it with a heat gun until the adhesive softens, slide it into proper position, then let it cool to re-stick? Would I risk melting the plastic bumper cover? I could also just leave it.

See pic below:

I have removed rear logo's in the past off plastic bumpers using a hair dryer to soften the adhesive (they don't get as hot as a true heat gun), then dental floss to "saw" back and forth under the logo.

Thanks, Klepper. Did you then re-attach the logo? How did you do it? What did you use to clean up the adhesive residue? Did you have to re-polish the area?

I was removing the logo for a cleaner look, so I did not reapply. I would suspect there's lots of 3M type products that you could use though. I used some "goof off" to clean the residue, and then polished it with a bit of tooth paste! It works great.

Body shops use monofilament fishing line to do this maneuver instead of dental floss.

I don't really want to remove it, though. I'd rather not have to take it completely off, re-apply adhesive and figure out where it fits perfectly again from scratch. I just want to adjust it on the car - twist it a bit clockwise and let the adhesive re-set.

hi mgordon18

congrats on your gt4 acquisition. I recently purchased mine and am also in NJ (union county). Would you mind measuring two things for me?
  1. The distance between the bottom of the 3rd brake light to the top of the 'S'
  2. The distance between the bottom of the 'S' and the 'T' in 'GT4'
I had my rear bumper rewrapped in PPF and the shop didn't have the Cayman GT4 specific template to reapply the badges. They had the 991 911 template. The horizontal spacing (with curve) of the template looks correct but vertical we weren't sure of.

Thanks so much
Al

Hi Al,

Thanks, and congrats to you too!

I've taken one picture that will hopefully satisfy both measurements you're looking for. See below. Hopefully it comes out large enough for you to pick out the individual millimeter marks. Note that I'm holding the tape down in the curve below the back up light, so this is not "as the crow flies."

Try heating with a heat gun or hair dryer and rotate into position.
If you use any line to cut the adhesive bond, it is unlikely it will adhere again without applying new adhesive.
good luck trying to find thin enough adhesive foam for this purpose.
I could not when I looked 5 - 6 years ago.

If you can buy just an O, remove old and apply new.
I'm sure Porsche will only charge $90 or so......................

It's fixed now. I was able to heat it up with a hair dryer and slowly slowly slowly push it into place. It's not 100% perfect, but it's close enough for government work.
