Default DIY channel for 981 GT4

Hi Guys,
I am creating a DIY channel on my 981 GT4 to chronicle what I do to my car. In hopes this will help others out. I have been in the auto industry as a tech for over 10 years so I'm pretty handy when it comes to working on my own vehicles and i can pretty much do it all with some limitations. If you like please subscribe. And don't worry I hope to get my video skills to be as good as my mechanical skills. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiZ...AX72FDCuCvTZ_Q Any and all comments are welcome, I know i can improve.

Awesome! I will certainly follow. Are you in Bay Area?

I just picked up a 981 GT4 and plan to do all my own maintenance work on it as well. One nice thing about the 981 vs 718 GT4 is that there are no underside panels that need to be removed in order to do the simple task of an oil change.

I ordered a PIWIS II device from Autonumen. Hope that will be easy and intuitive to use.

I am in process of installing a JoyeAuto Apple Car Play device. Not going as smoothly as I would like, but I will post more on it when I am done.

Also, I ordered aspherical side mirrors, so look forward to receiving them and installing them as well.

If you don't start the first 5-10 minutes of your videos with footage of you running errands/making coffee/hanging with your "mates", then I'll like and subscribe.

Well said! Also... please don't spend ANY time explaining why it's important to do this job, or if you must, wait till the How To part is completely done, then regale us with why a car needs the oil changed or the air filters cleaned. You can tell people at the beginning, "To learn why this job is important scroll to the very end." Most of us already know it's important or we wouldn't have looked up how to do it!

For these reasons I always look for a written tutorial vs. a video if available on the google. I can scroll through a written set of instructions at my own scanning pace, rather than trying to fast forward on a video and potentially miss something that actually WAS important buried in all the wasted time at the beginning before the actual job begins. Alas, often there is nothing but a video, because people don't know how to write.

Thats awesome. I don't live in the bay area, but that is where my car came from. I am on the east coast near Baltimore. Very cool. I might have to pick up a PIWIS as well. I have VAG-COM for all of my VW products i had/have. It has a basic scanner on it as well to pull codes. It won't talk to the other modules in the car though i don't think. I haven't tested it on a Porsche yet.

I saw video's for the apple car play and it didn't look to overly hard to do. I cannot do it unfortunately due to i don't have the PCM in my car. I have heard that i can install the PCM and have Porsche code it to work though.

Gotcha, good input. I get a little dumb when trying to take a video, I am fine in person when just talking to people or showing them how to do something. I do it all the time at work with my current role. I just get all nervous that i will screw up the video.

Well, I guess I'll have to support you now.since you're local.

P.s. - you able to change shift points for Mk6 GLI with VAG COM? My DSG is horrible since fluid service.

Thanks for supporting me. We have to meet up at Annapolis C & C sometime when the weather breaks. I don't believe i can change shift point coding. If you look into it and i can make adaptation changes let me know, my vag-com will do a lot of things. Its almost like a factory scan tool. I think the shift logic strategy is in the programing. I am sure a DSG tune might help. The only other thing we can do is reset the learning or the clutch adaption. I have a MkV Jetta TDI as my DD.

Sounds good. I had just started going to Katie's c&c in VA last year but Covid came right after. Got a Mk7 GLI as well, but looking to move out of both of them soon.

Very nice. What you going to get after you get rid of your cars? My co-worker keeps egging me to go to Katie's. I live in a HOA of over 1000 homes and we have our own C & C that we do at our clubhouse. Lots of current residents and some previous ones still come as well.

To replace my daily, looking at M2 Comp or CS, or an RS5 sportback.

Also, since your channel is "along the same lines" as "Obsessed Garage", at least as far as DIY GT4 work, one way to expand content/differentiate may be to do work on other GT4s...only so much you may do to your own.

Thats a good idea. I wouldn't mind doing work to others GT4's or whatever as well. They provide the car and parts and i will do it. I want people to see the work i to and trust me. You need anything done to yours? The only thing i need to do is a bigger air compressor for more volume. It works, i just can't really run a cut off wheel or a die grinder for that long before i have to stop and wait for it to build up again.

My friend has the M2 and loves it. He had a VW golf R, sold that to get the M2.

I "need" the 4.5L swap, and re-gear, but not sure I want/should make that kind of commitment...and I'm still on the fence as to whether I'm keeping it.

I did buy a set of Shine springs I'd like to install, though I'm not sure springs will give me the ride I want, as I'm starting to think its the dampers.

Decisions must be made.

Its just the software coding for the dampers. i wonder if you can change it to be more chushy with the V3 DSC. i've read a little bit on it and seems to have a USB hook up to the module. Might be something to possibly look into.
