So after 4 years the substandard polish made stock VW/Porsche battery but the dust. Could not jump it and didn’t want to tow it for another substandard $500 plus Porsche battery with the cost to “reprogram” the car. The Advanced auto Diehard H8 was huge and twice the weight. I figured if Porsche used an H5 before then I replaced it with the Diehard H5 AGM. Straightforward install except the programming device needed the serial numbers etc which did not compute when I put in the serial number for the diehard. This prevented the Ctek charger from going through its cycles. So cleared all previous codes from the dead battery and viola ctek works fine. Car battery replacement should be easier and user friendly especially when getting a car moving is essential. This should not a way for a dealer to profit!
Ahem... The preferred terminology is not "profit" it's: Porsche Dealer Service Department Full Employment Program (PDSDFEP).
I've replaced batteries on a 2014 Cayenne and 2015 Boxster and didn't do the battery reprogramming. Not recommending anyone else do it but my experience has been no issues thus far. I put an H8 in the Boxster and as you note, it was huge and probably not needed as it wasn't a cold weather car (for me at least). I traded it for a 2016 Spyder and will get around to changing the battery this spring (5 year battery replacement on my vehicles). TBH, I didn't realize OEM battery was H5 (thought it was H6) but I'll go with the smallest size as the Spyder isn't a cold weather car either.
Yes the original non AGM battery was an H5 manufactured in Poland. I cross reference ( and it did take some time) it and found it was put also in many VW's in 2014-2016. The H5 was a direct fit so that confirmed it. It also weighed about half of what the H8 weighed. The only difference is the reserve amps are lower in the new AGM diehard H5( 60 vs 92 Amps ) and the Cold Cranking Amps are much higher 650 vs 400. But with the AGM being more efficient and the fact the Spyder doesn't have all the bells and whistles especially stop/start I think I will be Ok. Besides car stays on my Ctek most of the time when not driven

I also think the OEM battery in the spyder is AGM. Pretty sure mine is and I haven't replaced it yet.
(really tempted to put in an Antigravity especially since it is SO damned awkward trying to install the battery without climbing in the trunk but not sure I can justify the cost...)
That's strange as my service guy told me when I was changing mine that all 981 and 991 Porsche models and up come with AGM batteries from the factory. The factory Banner 70 Ah battery that came with my 981 Cayman S had no marking on it about being AGM, hence why I called them, but it is. Replaced it with a less than $200 exact size and spec Duracell Ultra Platinum SLI48AGM from batteries Plus more than 2 years ago and all is well
The battery in my Spyder is testing weak and needs replacement. It is a flooded non-AGM battery which I know because when I bought the car I removed the battery to confirm non-AGM and saw the acid sloshing around in the case. I think they used this type of battery for lightness and low cost. I will be looking for an H5 battery. The car lives in FL on trickle charger most of the time.
Will pick up a Walmart H5 battery tomorrow ( WM # 550341780 ).
Here is the Walmart H5 battery:
Although Sam's Club website did not list an H5 battery in stock I saw a Duracell brand battery there.
