Passenger Occupant Detection Error

Passenger Occupant Detection Error
I installed a set of leather 981 seats in my GT4 to replace my LWB.
Everything plugs in and seems to work, but I now have an airbag light. I disconnected the battery when doing the swap as to not cause an error.
No errors pointing to the driver seat.
The error seems to point to either:
A) The car not liking the Passenger Occupant Detection Sensor, or
B) Faulty sensor on the passenger seat
I tried to troubleshoot to see if it was just Durametric being unable to clear the code. I unplugged the seat which caused a bunch of codes. Was successful in clearing them all except this one code.
Thoughts? Do I need PIWIS to disable looking for the sensor as one option? Or do I try to fix the sensor on the seat?

I got the same exact fault swapping the other direction (18-way sofas to LWBS). Though I haven't fixed it yet, my research indicated that the dealer needs to use PIWIS to change which type of seats are registered to the vehicle. My dealer SA said that they have done the same thing before on other vehicles and it only takes 5 min to fix with PIWIS. Will be getting it done in a week after I get the 6pt harnesses in the car.
It's not disable-able via iCarSoft (I tried) or any other non-PIWIS system, even though you can clear the other airbag faults. Note that, if you go into the passenger weight detection inside your durametric, you should see that the weight detection is in fact working, despite this fault (at least that's what I had on my end), making it clear that the sensor does actually work.

In my '14 flood Boxster, I replaced the passenger seat with one from a 2016 981. Besides having to upgrade the seat controller (both sides) modules to a '16 version, I had to reprogram via PIWIS the airbag and seat occupancy detector so the car knew how to talk to it. All was fine afterwards. Each seat occupancy detector has different identification codes and the airbag controller has to know this, and may need software update to know about that specific occupancy detector.
The newer seats' motors use only two wires vs four for previous modules. Apparently they went away from a Hall effect stall sensor to motor current measurement to determine when each motor has reached the end of travel. Only the newest seat controllers can detect this, so both seat modules had to be upgraded. Before the upgrade, there were five seat errors reported because the older modules failed the range of movement calibration routine due to inability to detect the end of motion on the 2016 seat (although the switches on the seats worked fine with the older controllers). Changing modules on both seats then passed the calibration test and errors went away.

Airbag Sensor 997.1 Issue SOLVED
I had an ongoing airbag sensor light issue. Took it to the dealer twice and they couldn't reset it. Purchased a Schawben Porsche scanner from Pelican Parts and it said it was on the passenger side 804 error. Following the advice on the forum, I replaced both airbag sensors under the front bumper cover, reset the codes after and my dash is finally clear of that nasty red error code. The best $300 spent. Removing the front bumper cover was easy, just take your time and follow the guide on Pelican. Finally no CEL on my 997.1

This thread is related to a different seat swap but if you read through it, you can learn a lot about seat error codes and occupant detection sensors: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1078...991-2-a-2.html
Based on what I learned from that thread, I am pretty sure if you swap the occupancy sensor control module from your original seat to the new seat the error code will disappear. I think that module needs to be activated in the vehicle so if you use the original module it will be paired properly. Of course the other option is to have a dealer or indy shop program the new seat to the car.
The module is that grey painted metal Delphi unit in the top left of this photo from that same thread:

I know the feeling. My 997.1 4S Cabriolet had the same issue. After enough researching and YouTube’s it was just the passenger side sensor. Part was $175 from dealer and i installed it myself.
*Was a great quarantine job. 🏁👍🏻

thanks for this. Does this go into the grey connector to override the weight sensor?
