Default Buying Advice GT4 vs 718GTS

Hello all
Looking for some guidance.
I have a 2016 Spyder which I love and will keep forever. My daily driver was a manual 2015 Cayman S which I just sold. I love the Cayman platform and Im looking for more power.
I do not spend much time on a track and do not race this cars. I do want to do some open track driving skill type of stuff with next car.

Here is my question: GT4 or 718 GTS

I have been told my many that the GT4 is very similar to my Spyder so why have 2 "similar" cars..... I have always liked the GT4 but worried of having do deal with the 3rd gear issue

Buy a 2015 build or if it's a 2016 get one that's had the gearbox replaced but Porsche are replacing them even outside of warranty.
This isn't an issue.

Drive them both. Different power delivery. You may prefer one over the other.

However, the GT4 is better equipped to track or to drive aggressively on the street when appropriate. I find the GT cars styling more purposeful but styling is subjective.

GT cars will depreciate less but that may be offset by buying the GTS used.

Ultimately, there are reasons that the GT4 was acclaimed in the press and sold 2000+ units - it’s a great car and a value in the Porsche world.

Thank you both. I have been looking at multiple GT4s for sale. I love the sound of the flat-6 in my Spyder so not sure Im ready for a turbo 4. Although the torque at the lower end on the GTS looks impressive

I had a 981 CGTS that I traded for a GT4. It's a CPO car, so I'm not stressing the 3rd gear possibility.

We also have a 718 base that my girlfriend almost dailies. It's 1.5 years old with ~15,000 miles.

I love my GT4. Love. It's an incredible car and it is perfect for me. That said, the GTS was a more comfortable daily driver and so is the 718. I have the LWBs and can't imagine not getting them. I love the driving position, but they offer very limited adjustment. The GT4 is much louder inside and it can be argued less comfortable. I was actually very surprised at the difference moving from the GTS to the GT4. And for me, it was pleasant surprises. For others, it might not be. Get some seat time in the GT4 and the 718 and really think about use before making the decision.

If you happen to be in Georgia, let me know. We can meet up and you can check it out.

Since you have a Spyder, which is an awesome car I wish I had... I would recommend looking at 991.1 GT3s instead. Just a bit more price wise, but you get a 10 year engine warranty. That would be a sweet stable.

Some 718s have the third gear failure too.

How about showing an example of this since based on delivery none are out of warranty.

Your spyder also is at risk for a 3rd gear failure, so if that doesn’t worry you then I’d get the gt4.

A bit more price wise? While 991.1’s have suffered more depreciation recently, the delta is still in the $30k range.

I feel like if you can afford 100k, 130k isn’t far off.

Ha, i like the logic but that is a vicious cycle...because if you can afford 100k, you can afford 130k...if you can afford 130k, you can afford 160k.....on and on

You're thinking about his all wrong; pooling multiple subprime mortgages together somehow makes them less risky. "I'd never loan this 500-credit-score homebuyer 40 cents, but bring me three thousand of them and I'm all in!"

Packaging a GT4 with a Spyder should cut your risk in half. Trust me on this...
