Help! Engine Wont Turnover . . .

Havent driven the car in 2 weeks.
Battery gauge on the instrument cluster shows halfway at approximately 11.9 volts.

All of the electrics come on, the radio, headlights, vanity lights, and instrumentation.
I get a message on my right gauge saying to "Depress the Clutch" along with an "ECS + TC" message.

Turn the ignition on, but engine wont crank.
Currently have the trickle charger on, but debating on whether I should pull the battery cables to help reset the ECM.

Any thoughts?

On my '13 991s I had a similar issue and it wound up being the crankshaft sensor. I can't remember if the dash showed "depress the clutch" but I think the "ESC + TC" warning came up at the time.

From the message you're getting it is most likely that your clutch safety switch has failed. In many Porsches you can override it by holding the clutch down and the key in the crank position for 30 seconds or more. It won't turn right away, but if this car has the override,it will eventually crank and start.
If that doesn't work you'll have to call the dealer and they'll send you a flat bed.

11.9 is not enough

Had a Porsche Trickle Charger on it last night for awhile and on two occasions the charger showed that the battery was charged.
I disconnected it and got back into the car to try and start the engine. Nothing.
A look at the instrument cluster showed 12.2 volts on each occasion.

What is the switch with the red housing? Looks to be attached to the part with the yellow arrow also.

extanker says 11.9 is not enough - I wonder if 12.2 is enough? I do not recall ever looking at mine w/o the car running. You could hook up jumper cables to eliminate the battery as a potential issue.

I hesitate to ask this, but has anyone every roll-started or push-started their GT4? I had a 1981 Honda prelude and literally by myself (on flat road) could push start that car. I would not be the first one trying it on a GT4, however!

Looks like this used to be a simple DIY, but Porsche redesigned it and the switch is now part of the clutch master cylinder, which necessitates a bleed and/or replacement of the master cylinder. There is a link that I came across this issue from poster "rk-d" (posted above) which totally stranded him.
At least my car is in my garage.

The red switch is what deactivates the cruise control when you depress the clutch.

I've often thought about this same question. I've never seen a post on Rennlist where anyone has done this. This is straight up old skool........Phil

11.9 should be plenty. Mine just started showing 11.6V this morning...

13.7V is standard charge, although that doesn't tell you anything about CCA
