718 GT4?

If he was only "almost" on par with your GT4, either you're a better driver than him/her or your car is also modified with similar upgrades. The GTS 'Ring time is one second quicker than the 981 GT4. Which only means, of course, that they are essentially equals. Swap in a set of Cup2s and the GTS is going to be faster.

I think it all depends on the track......he was able to gain time on me on the really tight corners but on the big corners and straights the GT4 would gain the time back and then a little bit more....I couldn't afford to loose any momentum.

Just providing clarity, the official times were the same. And for the record, I get why the common assumption is that a 718 with Cup 2s or RE71Rs are just as quick around a track.
A side note, if you follow the Suncoast 718 thread, they have had some major issues with over heating, even after modding the cooling system. Not a good sign for turbos on the 982 chassis.

I'm kind on the same camp as you.....love my 981 GT4 and have it dial in for track days.
But since I'm at top of the list at my dealer it's too tempting to get the new one which will probably address some issues on the 981, so I'll have to buy the new car as you mentioned.
But wait, it gets even worst...if I'm lucky (or unlucky) for my allocation to fall within PTS then I 'll have no option but to shell out the ridiculous +$8K for PTS so I don't waste the "exclusivity" of having a PTS 718 GT4.

For sure, it's very subjective. Weather, drivers, tire condition, etc. But the numbers we do have from multiple tracks say the 718 isn't any quicker around a track with R comps then a GT4.

and makes you wonder why they aren't selling a (fill in your appropriate word) of 718 GTS cars
is it just the sound coming out of the motor?
is it the "looks?"
is it the type of motor?
is it the "promise of a GT4 version" so everyone is just waiting?
Porsche already knows the answer and I believe there's plenty of room for a GT4 (plus Boxster 6 and Cayman 6 versions) plus a GT4RS
GT4RS will be last NA variant of the Cayman/Boxster lineup before the all electric replacements show up in 2022/23

On the same track (MSRH) with the same driver (me) on the same day - I have identical lap times when we swapped cars for a session. That (and given identical Ring times between the two cars stock) is why I claimed that the 718 with a tune and other mods should be faster than a stock GT4.
We have never had any heat issues (or any issues at all for that matter) with the 718 tracking in Texas 100 degree heat.

All the rumors suggest an optional PDK option but at a later date. Why not just offer a PDK at launch? Is it because they are saving the PDK for a GT4RS? Will the GT4 be quite limited in allocations?

I don't think Lord Lucan is proposing that it's necessarily a turbo six.
