Wouldn't that go against what we've seen so far? All the mules have been manuals, not a single pdk has been sighted. Why run laps around the Ring in manual cars, even the one they fitted out seemingly in official (Nring rules) lap timing spec.

The 991.1 GT3 had the same bore as the 981 GT4. The 991.2 GT3 has the same bore are the 991.2 GT3. As tcsracing1 had said in an earlier post, the 982 GT4 shares its engine case with the 991.2 GT3. The GT4 has a reduced stroke and redline version of the 991.2 GT3 motor. It is a different engine, not just the old one with X51, despite having similar performance specs to the old X51 motor.

Besides owning some impressive lineup of street cars...TCSRACING1 is the owner of not just 1 but TWO 718 GT4 Clubsports, also being an active competitor in GT4 with a GT4 CS 981....I think he should be able to get good info on what's about to be launched in a month or two.
It is what it is folks! I think speculation and rumor time is "almost" over.......

According to CJ there will be a different engine in the road version with a PDK becoming available later on. There's definitely some conflicting information being presented. It will be interesting to find out who was right all along.

All PDK?. Probably not. Yes the test mules for the road car have only been manual. Big heads up that is a one possible transmission. Enjoy the specs of the club sport and be encouraged that the road car will have 30kw (40hp) more than the 981 GT4 and be a nice improvement all round. There will be a nice surprise for all at launch I suspect. Porsche AG must enjoy hearing the anticipation from their potential customers and the passion that is displayed on this forum. We patiently wait...…...

CJ's wording was a bit ambiguous - he said it's going to be naturally aspirated, >3.0 displacement for sure, maybe >3.8 displacement (depending on how you interpret his wording), and "it will not share an engine with any current production cars". Exactly what this means is unclear. The 718 GT4 CS also doesn't share an engine with any current (or previous) production cars. It's a 991.2 GT3 case with a different top and and crankshaft. Does the 718 GT4 CS count as a "current production car"? I don't know.

I was initially underwhelmed that it's just a warmed over 981 GT4 with a few simple X51 mods. However, I've now realized that despite similar performance figures, this is not just the old engine with X51, but rather a downgraded 991.2 GT3 motor. It shouldn't really matter, but emotionally it makes me feel a little better.

More importantly, beyond the engine upgrades, the composite material weight reduction, suspension, and aero upgrades have been significant according to CJ's post on the 718 forum. tcsracing1 also seemed quite pleased with the new car according to his various comments. Copying CJ's post over to here:

3.8L was bulletproof for the previous gen racer (we did 16,000 miles over 2 imsa seasons and never lost 1hp) so they strengthened it and upped the output. it hits a lot harder at the top of the rev range, and the new shock/tire/spring combo makes it a lot friendlier on cold tires as well. Having driven both the GT4 Gen1 and this Gen2, and both gen1 570GT4 and the new evo kit 570GT4...this is significantly lighter which is the biggest porsche target. In BoP for PWC/IMSA it really makes a big difference when you are a little too fat- crushes the tires at the end of the stint and that's when people end up flying off course in the Mustangs and other fatty big HP cars.
Give me a 718 Spyder with this motor, this suspension, and a manual transmission, and I'll be a happy camper, even if it's not the lightweight mid engined GT3 we dreamed of.

I eagerly await the surprise. Some optimistic dreaming: maybe the European market particulate filters rob some torque, meaning they have to make the street car rev higher to hit the same power level as the Clubsport

Is the 718 Clubsport Trackday base car the basis for homologation of the 718 GT4 racecars thus disassociating the road 718 GT4 from the homologation process?

IF Yes, nothing in theory (but not economics) need be common between Clubsport Trackday car and road car.

Just a thought..

He mentioned that all versions will be NA, in which context a 3.0l engine wouldn't make sense, leaving only 1 possible interpretation(unless he was pointing out the obvious). Am also curious to find out whether the race version upgrades translate to the road version. I am confident there's going to be some aero tweaks that the road version is going to miss out on.

For me that just moved from the US to Europe.

Most trackdays I attend and tourist drives at the Ring demands the car to be street legal. A lot of us end up buying street legal gt3, gt3rs and Gt4s and modify the cars so we end up with half a car in boxes before it handles to our liking.
Ask Manthey racing how many street cars they modify every year.
A modified gt4cs “trackday” edition would be very welcomed and would save a lot of hassle and work.

There are spy pics of 718 Cayman with the rear diffuser and exhausts almost identical to the GT4 mule which was labeled as the 718 "T" because it doesn't have the rear wing. Now the T has been introduced and it has a standard rear diffuser and exhaust, it's clear this test car was not the T. Which one was it then?

Maybe a GT4 touring?
