Ran my Chillout for the first time a few weeks ago on an 88F day, worked great for all 6 sessions about 25 minutes each, kept the Chillout temp at 45F. The neat thing was how the coolant in my shirt stayed cool for another 10 minutes when I jumped into my student's car. Here are a few pics of the install, was just a temp fab, but it all worked great. I used industrial velcro so I wouldn't have to permanently cut into anything, can still open/close door and put on the window when it rains.

i doubt you really need ducting when the windows are open. mine maintained 43 degrees for over 70 minutes and I haven't installed ducting yet but I was running A/C for the whole race.

You absolutely do need ducting. As the ambient temp rises, getting cool charge air matters. Mine struggled to keep up at VIR in ~92F temps until I put the intake hose out the window. This is why I installed the NACA duct in the quarter window (allow running windows in and still gets air to Chillout).

Does running the a/c matter or is it the quantity of cool area to the machine?

My car doesn't have AC so no idea. My friend who has AC turns it off during the races, so not sure he would know either.

Prior to the purchase, I talked to Charles (with Chillout) about this. He said the Clubsport would need ducting, either to outside air or duct to the A/C vent though that's not preferred. Charles said that with windows up and A/C or windows down, ducting would still be needed. Supposedly it draws less power from the battery when the compressor doesn't have to work as hard to cool outside air which is typically lower temp than the air inside the car.
I'm having some heat soak issues (I think) in the hot afternoons so I haven't tried just running windows in with A/C as I keep the A/C off, which I know might sound ridiculous, and hasn't worked to solve the issue, but that's a story for another thread I guess.

Is this worth the cost over a cool shirt setup? How hard is it to move this between 2 cars?

In my opinion, yes! The Coolshirt is much easier to use and can easily be swapped between cars. The Coolshirt does provide that nice, initial cold burst of wonderfulness but quickly gets warm. Mine would last no more than 20 minutes or so. The Chillout will maintain a temp of 40 degrees or so all day. Key is proper setup and venting of the unit.

One of my cars is an open cockpit style (exocet) so it sounds like I need to pony up and go with a chill out system

Sorry. Correction. I meant to say that "In my opinion, yes! The Chillout is much easier to use and can easily be swapped between cars. Just finished a weekend with 95F temps both days. The Chillout (ducted, see pics above) worked great, maintained 40F temps for all of the 25 minute lapping sessions I did. Kept me chill in the car with no AC running, windows down, and of course our Clubsports get mighty hot inside with the engine cover behind us. The only heads-up for potential buyers is that their website does not have good installation instructions, but Charles sent me some videos, plus a few on Youtube. Believe me if I can figure it out anyone can!

These things are awesome! I opted for the Pro version and just got mine installed last week by the guys over at Speed Syndicate www.speedsyn.com No affiliation just a long time satisfied customer. They did an awesome job and as you can see we went a little different route on the install. Instead if the 4" naca duct in the window we opted for tying it in directly to the a/c system. We decided to go this route for a couple of reasons but primarily due to the fact that I plan to install the SRO intake system next and we didn't want one naca duct in front of the other and potentially disturb the air flow for the new intake system in any way. Ran 2 days at Sebring last weekend where it was 95 degrees and the heat index was 106 on my phone. Nothing hotter than Sebring in July so quite certain the track temp was even higher. It worked great and maintained 40 degrees all day no problem!

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but could someone please send a close up photo of how they wired this puppy up to their battery system utilizing that 40 amp fuse holder linked above?
Just want to make sure I don't make a stupid mistake.

Not to hijack the thread but has anyone tried the InterCooler - Type 3 from Kustom Komponents https://www.kustomkomponents.com/. Seems like an interesting option for helmet and seat back cooling.

Red wire to fuse to battery +. Black wire to the solenoid or to battery -. If you wire the negative to battery it can always be on even when the main power is off; mine is wired to the solenoid so it turns off with the main power.

and below is the custom naca duct solution I made.

I’ve looked at them, but at basically the same weight (7.5 lbs) and power (25-30 amps). I’d rather have my core cooled. I am guessing they ain’t cheap, though I have never priced it out.

if you want to try something different, I would guess the one below from Riley is da bomb.

and here’s a few other brands out there, most in nascar land.
