Harry,
Thanks for the compliment on the vehicles. My 930 is THE dream car for me. The guy who maintained my 74 Ducktail Carrera look-a-like brokered the 930 and finally convinced me to drive it. I had resisted only because I KNEW that driving it would only produce one result - a purchase!
Boy, am I glad I drove that car! AND, I have to also say that I have really enjoyed my Cayenne. I was out there with a number of others who sat on the fence. My mind was changed once I saw one in person and was fully convinced once I drove it!
But back to the topic at hand, I am looking forward to watching the movie on my 50" plasma screen. I can already hear my wife..... "Are you watching THAT movie again????"

Thanks for posting this,
I have been waiting for this to come out on DVD with many a fruitless trip to HMV (DVD/music store).
Just ordered my copy.
Cheers
Tito.
PS I have a multi region player.

I watched it last night. The image quality is much improved over the VHS version. I always felt that the VHS version was pretty grainy. Not any more. The DVD has 16:9 capability and it was pure delight to watch it on a 50" plasma in widescreen mode. The sound quality is also much better than what you are used to hearing from the VHS version.
All in all, it was well worth the $14.95 I paid for it!
Be advised that you need a Region 1 player for this disc.

It's an amazing movie to watch from a technical standpoint. Remember, kids, this was BEFORE digitial imaging and CGI!!! Just fantastic...
I never had the VCR version (because I'm a nerd and won't watch "pan-and-scan" versions of movies) but I have it on laser disc. (..stop laughing..) The DVD picture is as good or better. Very clean. Good stereo sound. Not much to the "surround" sound, but what do you expect? Worth every penny.
By the way Toby, nice pair!

Thanks Doug. I am indeed fortunate to have these two sitting in my garage!
I've been gliding through "A French Kiss with Death" and watching the movie, trying to pick up some of the tricks. I still cringe every time I watch the crash sequence where an (erstwhile) 917 is wrecked by Mr. McQueen. Even if it was a Lola in wolf's clothing, it's awful to watch that car get written off!

I've been meaning to pick up that book, "A French Kiss with Death". But I'm still having trouble getting through "Cannonball"...my attention span is only about as long as a magazine article so reading a book is just tiresome. I hear it's a great book, though. A 'must have' for "LeMans" fans.
Did you note that it was a remote controlled car in that sequence you mentioned? You can tell because in the slow-mo just before the car comes to rest the wheels are still burning rubber! And yes, it's quite a shame to see any "old" car get destroyed... I wonder if we'll be saying that in 30 years about the cars that are destroyed in today's movies?

I watched the DVD on a 56" projection TV with Sunfire Cinema Grand, a variety of other electronics that cost too much, and Tannoy Speakers all around with Sunfire Subwoofer.
The cinematography is fantastic, especially the opening scene through the countryside. The music is very, very clean and bright. I think the voices were a little muddy, and definitely the surround sound was weak, but not bad for that vintage movie. Most annoying was some cracking on the engine sounds when turned up loud, but again for the age of the flick it's great. Just buy it, it's well worth it.
