I am neurotic, I need help!
Seems I used to drive my crappy old sports cars everywhere. Then, when a foreign work assignment came to an end in late '96, I decided to order a Boxster, one of the first, that was to be waiting for me when I returned. Great car, got a LOT of attention, but always a little nervous to leave it parked anywhere. Moved on to a new Viper GTS - couldn't seem to find just the right parking space to get in the restaurant in time for my reservation. Then the new M5, well sure it had a big trunk, but I couldn't take THAT to Costco...now my new '03 Carrera - can't chew fast enough to get out of the restaurant and get my baby the hell out of that damned parking lot! Consequently, I'm not putting any miles on these things (I do have a "normal" car too), which is contrary to my desire to spend ALL of my time behind the wheel! HELP ME!! OK, I realize it's just a car, but I'm fairly sure that I'm LOSING MY MIND!
Does anyone else have this neurosis and, if so, how can one get over it? IS THERE HOPE??

very much so. historical 1968 plates helped out, b/c of the restrictions. also i usually drive her just to drive her, to cruse and to have fun. occasionally diners or dates or what not. but never for any mundane daily activities. try not to take it any where you would be afraid to leave it. if you park it some where that has valet, maybe thats the way to go, cause its their job to make sure shes parked ok, and that nothing happens to her. (and if you do that, try not to remember the movie Ferris Bulers Day Off!)
seeing as how you cant get historical plates, i would say to just drive her for the pleasure of driving and less for any other utilitarian purposes.
sorry i thats not much help, but thats my .912 cents.

You have a classic case of Perpetual Porsche Paranoia. I have had it for 36 years since I was 17. Sorry there is no known cure!

I would agree Loose-Ends, valet parking is definitely not happening for me! I'd rather park her myself between two Excursions. The last valet I trusted scraped two of my 20" chrome wheels on my Navigator.

you just described my entire existance
The trick is to WORK WITH IT....
Don't eat at your prefered restaurant, eat at the one with the spare carpark right out the front.
ADVANTAGES:
- You can watch the car and enjoy your dinner
- You get to try lots of places you would never have choosen to eat at
DISADVANTAGES:
- occasional bout of food posioning
[but at least the car is not dented ]
