Hi Everyone,

I'm not a burglar but was wondering if everyone garages their car and if so what security do you use? E.g. I use a garage which is locked and alarmed with motion sensors, security lights, barbed wire, etc. OK so I made that last bit up - it would give too many punctures...

What does everyone else do and does anyone have anything special to suggest to protect their loved one?

Try a car cover in the shape of a Chevy Cavalier.

Seriously...I guess garages are more common here in the States. Don't tell anyone, but I don't bother to secure my cars...I just pull in and close the door behind them. Never had any problems. (Knock on wood) I figure once I start thinking about security, I'll go overboard. I love my cars, but it's just not worth the stress.

like-wise. pull in shut the door, lock it. meine leibe is stored at my parents place, who live in the middle of nowhere, so no one is ever around. plus we do have attack dogs (ok attack is an exageration, but they cant see that they are golden retrievers.. hey they bark really loud and actually scare some people). if they hear anything, they will go nuts barking. so my parents whould hear it. besides, someones always home anyways, dad works 2nd shift mom works 1st.

I have a garage with all doors alarmed and a BFG if someone does get in (when I'm home). No problems so far.

I keep my car in a lock up in London. I lock the doors but leave the windows open 1 inch or so to let air circulate. No alarm. I lock the garage door with a standard Yale key. So far, in 1 year, so good. If anything happens next I know who to look for, don't I David?? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Unfortunately I cannot garage my car 'cos
1)I use it often
2)Garage too small
3)Can't be bothered

If it's lucky, it gets a cover after a car wash.
It has factory Drive Block, and DiscLock for when I'm away.

I do love the car, really.

I keep mine in a detached garage (no room in a house that has 3 garages?!) with an alarm system, including a motion detector. Other than that, it's just locked up.

From the picture below, you can see me hard at work and nobody can sneak in. Except my wife who took a picture of me at nap time while getting my car ready for a DE one weekend.

I have to keep my 356 outside until I build a covered parking spot for it(paint, etc. is crap anyway and needs redoing badly), but the 2 attack dogs (Chows) in the yard help. So does living in the country, and having a stay at home wife who knows how to use the shotgun.

When I'm at work or have to leave the car overnight somewhere, I disconnect the battery, turn the fuel lever to off (do post-356 P cars have this?), and lock the transmission (again, a 356 only thing I think).

I read this post on Wednesday night and didn't bother to respond as I was a bit pushed for time (wife moaning I was still on the pc looking at rennlist _again_ <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> )
I was also thinking how lucky I was to be able to have the car tucked up in the garage safe & sound.
We are tucked out of the way a bit, so the garage has a camera link into the house to a control box by the tv that bleeps if any movement is detected, so I can check on it (or trigger the video to tape what it sees).

All of a sudden my smugness is disturbed when I realise that noise I can hear is the car alarm going off - in the garage !

After investigatibg I have no idea why it went off, as the garage was still locked, no one was in there, and all the doors etc were closed properly.

I blame you for this David, for sending subconscious thought waves to my car !! lol
Its either that or the car just fancied a bit of company for a minute or so.

P.S. besides the above security the car ha standard P alarm/immobiliser, and we park one of our other cars in ront of the garage, which is also alarmed/immobilised.
At some point the camera trigger will be linked to the house alarm (when I get around to it) which is sofisticated enough to call us if it is triggered.

I upgraded the alarm on mine to a new Cat 1 Autowatch system & bought the BIGGEST steering wheel lock I could find - it covers the entire wheel & is made of steel!! You can't be too careful - right? Living in London, I don't have the luxury of a garage, one day though...

I usually garage my Porsche, unlocked, in an unlocked garage. There are motion sensing lights outside the garage, but they are for convenience, not security.

just locked in a one car garage. i would do some alarm/motion sensing gear, but it's an apartment so i can't touch it...
