Just wondering if anybody has ever bought anything from Moffetts "Make Big Daddy Rich"? I ordered something from them before Xmas (12.21.02) and have yet to see it. I was told "about 10 days" on the delivery. The first time I called to order there was no answer. The second time I tried to order a guy answered "hello?" ...not "Moffetts, can I help you?" or even just "Moffetts, hello?" ..just "hello?". When he took my order I got the distinct feeling like I'd disturbed his lunch hour and he was scribbling my order on a napkin somewhere. I tried to call today to check on my order and all I get is an answering machine!!! They have my money (credit card). I'm a bit nervous. Should I be worried?

Fortunately you charged it so your covered if they don't deliver. I don't do any business with anyone who doesn't take credit cards. I got burned by Better Bodies several years ago because they only take cash. The part they sent was a POS. Lost $150 or so in shipping and restock fees for a broken part.

My wife bought me 2 books from them for Christmas and they did arrive, but took awhile and I know she was nervous because they just don't seem very professional. Oh yea, after the fact, I found the books elsewhere for considerably less.

Thanks guys...I'm still waiting. I never managed to get a hold of them yesterday. I'll give them a few more days before tearing them a new one...
The books I ordered I have not been able to find anywhere else. They're "collections" of magazine articles on particular years and/or from particular magazines. (i.e. "Car and Drive On Porsche:1970 - 1977") I believe the publisher is Brookland Books...I'm pretty sure they're British. If anybody has another source for those books, I'd appreciate it.
I suppose I could just fly to England...! ;-)

My Girlfriend boucht me a couple posters for X-mas. She commented on the same lack of proffesionalism. My ASSumption was that its just a guy with a bunch of stuff who set up a website to sell it. I got everything before x-mas with no problems. If in doubt, just call and talk to him.

You could probably get them at Bentley publishers or Barnes and Noble. They aren't rare books or anything. Just reprints. I was diappointed when I got one for my 911SC.

Check Classic Motorbooks at <a href="http://www.motorbooks.com." target="_blank">www.motorbooks.com.</a> They have a pretty complete selection. Other online sources like Amazon and Barnes and Noble have fairly good choices too. If it's truly a British book not available in the US, try <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk." target="_blank">www.amazon.co.uk.</a> (No affiliation with any of them)

Thanks to all with the suggestions. Just to update...I'm still not able to get a hold of an actual person to talk to about the order. Every morning when I call I get the freakin' answering machine. I leave a clear message with my home and work phone numbers, but I've gotten no call.
With Bill Gregory's advice, I checked amazon.co.uk to see availability on the books I ordered. At least two of the books are not yet published (!) but available through them. I'm trying to decide if I want to cancel the order through Moffetts "Make Big Dumbass Rich" and go with amazon.uk, even though the exchange rate and shipping would probably double the order. Moffetts did charge my credit card already, which irks me to high heaven. Of course, if I can never get a hold of Moffetts, the whole point will be kinda moot, huh?
Needless to say, I will NEVER order from them again.

I ordered three books from them and had a terrible experience. Lies, and damn lies. I got one and cancelled two. I ordered the two on Amazon.com, had them within a week and found them about 10% cheaper.
They were so bad I really should write to Excellece and tell them the details. They should probably be banned, or at least warned.

Update: My credit card people were very helpful. I need to send a letter, but they'll dispute the charge. Still no product and still no real person to talk to there. My letter went out this morning.
I think I'll follow up to Excellence as well to let them know about my experience. I'll probably print this forum as further evidence. (Since they don't have a website or e-mail address, I can't just send the link!)
Thanks again for all your help.

Final Update: The books showed up on Saturday!!! After going through all of that...I never heard from Moffetts after calling time after time. I sent out the letter to my CC company to dispute the charges. I'm sure it arrived before Saturday when I got the books.
I guess now my CC and Moffetts will argue it out. I feel like an idiot since my CC people were so helpful and Moffetts was completely uncooperative. But I refuse to feel guilty if my CC gets my money back. ANY business should give away free product for such shotty customer service.
Still working on that letter to Excellence and any other magazine I can find that sells adverts to Moffetts.
Thanks again for all your help and support.

I bought a couple of vintage racing books on the subject of Watkins Glen from Green Mountain Motorbooks in Vermont
<a href="http://www.greenmountainmotorbooks.com/" target="_blank">http://www.greenmountainmotorbooks.com/</a>
with great service, etc.
I would highly recommend them for hard-to-find, and out-of-print books on racing, race tracks, etc
No affiliation, other than a satisfied customer...
