Default Please help - Cayenne Vs. Lexus RX330?

First off, I recognise that this question may not be the most accurate as Lexus RX330 and Cayenne are clearly not in the same category; but would appreciate thoughts and facts based on your real time Cayenne ownership experience.

As most of us would agree, Porsche is all about the Brand. And if not all, most of you have bought a Porsche as, by default, it commands a second look and raises eyebrows among friends & enemies.

I am fairly financially stable guy who will be streching to buy a used Porsche Cayenne. Until recently, I was considering buying a used Lexus RX330 but knowing that if I streched a little, I could afford a 2008/2009 Cayenne V6, am considering it seriously.

I know maintaining a used Lexus RX330 is like maintaining a Toyota - maintenance is cheap, resale value is good and ofcourse the RX330 is dependable. What I really would like to learn is what I am signing up by going for a used Cayenne V6 - Am I going to bury myself in too high maintenance costs, especially since I am planning on a 3-4 years old Cayenne (assume 60K miles)? What kind of costs should I expect on a 60K miles Cayenne V6?

And, lastly, are there any of you who would advise me to not consider Cayenne V6, but go with Lexus RX330.

It is not worth the risk to "stretch" to get into a Cayenne V6.

Whoa, how exactly are you cross shopping between the sportiest and the least sportiest SUV on the market? Porsche is not all about the brand. Porsche is about performance. Lexus...well...they have the exact opposite view of how a car should drive.

Who's the car for? You or your family? If the latter then get the Lexus. Less of a headache for you.

Here's one consideration:
A recent model Porsche Cayenne will have a 6 year/100,000 mile CPO warranty. This will moderate the risk of repairs that comes with buying a used vehicle.

Although it's only a Lexus, that's the car for you if you most highly value reliability and build-quality.

You may want to consider the Infiniti FX35. Close to the reliability of a Lexus with much of the excitement of the Cayenne. And cheaper than both!

I have owned a Porsche (Boxster and 911's) for the past 12 years and companion Japanese SUV during most of this time. For the last 6 years it has been Lexus, but before that was an Infinity and a BMW. My advice is Porsche for fun and performance and Lexus for comfort and reliability. My two Lexus SUV's have had zero problems, are quiet, comfortable, and nice to drive. My Porsches have been fun to drive but have been to the shop a couple of times a year for mostly minor problems, e.g. broken muffler bracket, HPFP recall, coolant tank, etc. Always something, but I wouldn't trade the Porsche for anything else.

Can't go wrong with Porsche and Lexus sharing the garage.
