OK, I'll go a little against the grain here, and suggest that you first get a college education. There is nothing that will prevent you from pursuing a career in automotive mechanics after you are done with school. And for that matter, you could work as a mechanic while you are going to school. But get the education. It will grow you in ways you can't quite understand/foresee right now. While you are studying and after, definitely follow the path that takes you to what you love to do. But get the schooling.
