Update - Jul 16, noon(ish).....

Since my "nudge" yesterday at this time, I've received an additional $1000 in donations/pledges and I thank you all for it. It makes the effort all the more worthwhile. And, I have to acknowledge the Rennlisters that have stepped up. In the last 24 hours, all but 3 donations have come from you folks. It's greatly appreciated.

We have enough now to buy cards that will allow 50 service men/women over there to call home for up to 2 1/2hrs total talk time. That's a good thing!

Let's try to keep the momentum and see if we can surpass the last drive's total. Stay tuned......

Mike

Hi folks;

Well in one week we've surpassed what we did in one month last time around. So far the tally is $2050 ($1980 net of PP fees) received/pledged.

Congrats and thanks to all donors! We're very close to buying the first 75 pre-paid cards. Once all funds are received, I'll update you via email.

For those contemplating donating, please do. Any sized donation is acceptable. Let's try for another 75! Cheers,

Mike

Wow that is great. I just got back from Afghanistan after 15 months with the 82nd Airborne. I think this is awesome guys. I do have one suggestion though, if it's even possible. I never used the service that was there for us, but it's called Spaware. It requires you to purchase minutes just like the phone card, but these phones are "kinda" available in Afghanistan, and i've heard all over in Iraq.

Something to look into anyway, maybe these phone cards could work out better? I had VERY limited access to anything where I was so i'm not really speaking for the majority. Here's the link. My wife had to call me on a cell phone I purchased from locals in country, with phone cards purchased online. The wives and families need some sort of support also, it's plain robbery what phone companies charge for calls like she tired making from home.

I want to thank everyone on here that's donating. I'm in Bagdad right now and the phones in the MWR buildings are spaware phones.

I'm not going to lie. Most people here are a little pissed off at AT&T because they have all these banners about supporting the troops but a 300 minute phone card will get you somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 minutes I think. Maybe less. It's like 22-23 cents a minute to call home when you have the time.

Anyways, thank you to each and every person here that's donating. It's great to know that people at home support us. I think it's great that most people, whether they support the war or not, support us. That makes what we do worth while.
